Of course, I see some people (and outlets) are doing the defensive approach of "well, I guess it appears to be fake...but it's really sad that I could totally imagine him saying something like that, so that says something!"

...and evidently Stephen King took the bait again like he's done on a few other fake posts (ironic that one of the most well-known fiction writers doesn't have a good eye for spotting these sorts of things)

Per they link I posted earlier from a Canadian fact checking site, other extremely similar images circulating around have been found to be fakes.

While I haven't been able to find a specific fact check about this latest iteration, the fact that it's referencing them not being invited to the ballroom (that obviously wouldn't be done by the time this world series wraps up...they're saying that ballroom won't even be ready until 2028, which means there will be 2 more world series before it's even ready), is the part that makes it seem a tad suspect.

I haven’t bothered to fact check any Trump tweets in years. I’ll look twice if he ever puts out something totally out of character for him. Like a compliment with no strings attached or a unifying message that doesn’t devolve into self promotion.

Right, but Stephen King's business is fiction writing and least some level of prowess when it comes to understanding various writing styles, is it not?

You expect some "regular joes" online to take the bait and fall for it, but if someone who's been a world renown chemist for 40 years falling for it may raise a few eyebrows.

I don’t think King’s fiction writing credentials necessarily exclude him from falling for internet rage bait. That’s what that stuff is designed to do, after all. Maybe he should be a little more discerning than the average person but maybe people should also not take a science fiction writer so seriously when he spouts off about some political topic. Like I said, we have a president who spread a lie about Haitians eating people’s pets during a big nationally televised debate, so this is hardly limited to people like Stephen King and I won’t blame him too much for believing yet another nasty tweet from Trump could be legit.
