  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Devoted Doctor Who fan here! I've been watching since the early 1980s, when some of my fellow college students introduced me to the show.

We'd watch episodes over the weekend, and then we'd discuss the ethical and philosophical questions raised by the latest episode in theology class the following Monday. There aren't many shows you can do that with.

Who's your favorite doctor?

I came in on the 9th Dr, so based upon all since that time, enjoyed David Tennant and matt Smith the most, and thought peter dr was Grumpy Grandpa, and just disliked when the gender switched out into Jodi W Dr, nothing against her acting, by the Dr should always be a white British man , next thing you know, James Bond will become an albino trans gentleman{ and am NOT hating on any particular group of people, just idea can just freely changed over 50 years of how he was portrayed"

Tom Baker is still my favorite, with David Tennant my favorite from the new series. But I've enjoyed most of the various actors who've appeared as the Doctor over the years.

I think my favorite version of the Master is still Roger Delgado. He had an elegance that I liked.

On the other tab I was watching a Star Trek clip, nuff said. Although I haven watched the newer versions.
I watched a little Dr. Who here and there in the 70s, but it never really caught on for me. Then in '09 or whenever, I started watching the reboot and watched up to the emergence of number 12, and didn't pick up on that or future seasons. I don't know why.

As I like both of those series?
I loved the reboot with Eccleston then David Tennant - the chattiest most verbose and emotional Doctor of them all I think.

My fav.

Also - Blink is one of the best episodes of ALL Doctor Who - and possibly many other Sci-Fi shows as well. So clever, so full of tropes, so cheeky with the Geeky guy telling Sarah Sparrow about his mates online had a theory... (And she just laughs at him!) The Geek humour was fantastic!

The writing under Matt Smith got awkward - with them possibly trying to be too clever. I loved the idea of the Doctor bumping into consequences he had not even caused yet, as he travelled around one season - but it kind of got awkward.

Basically I see Doctor Who as a sort of modern day Greek Mythology - with the Doctor like a combination Greek god messing in human and alien affairs. I can go years without watching it - and then suddenly binge like crazy. Gotta be in the right zone. Love it - until I don't - and then I just need a break.

Peter C Dr seemed to nbe Grumpy Grandpa to me,. and hated it when gender switched out to a female, and then a Gay black man Nothing against those actors, just did not need to get woke, but was crammed down our throats by Disney

Liked when davis tennant Dr met the beast in the pit, and it even freaked him out that the Beast claimed to be Satan

My thing was reviews said the plots and character writing were just awful.

Disney has international distribution rights (i.e., outside the UK and Ireland), but it's a BBC production. The LGBTQ themes in the post-2005 seasons of the show are probably due to the influence of Russell T Davies.

My thing was reviews said the plots and character writing were just awful.

I wouldn't say "awful", but I thought the writing was weaker during the Jodie Whitaker seasons. Unfortunate, because I thought she did well with the scripts she had, and I'd like to have seen her be given a really excellent script.

Russell T Davies returned to the show after that, and I thought the scripts in the more recent seasons were better. As he did originally in the 2005 pilot, he reached back into the classic series for some nostalgic characters (a treat for old-time fans). And I've really enjoyed watching Ncuti Gatwa; he brings that combination of over-the-top energy and moments of deep emotion that have characterized the Doctor since the days of the 23-foot scarf.

Wow - back in the day. I was a kid - and that show was SCARY back then!
The Planet of the Spiders! My word.

But now think what kids are watching. Harry Potter had Aragog - and the whole giant spider chase thing! On the big screen you can't get away - I was fairly creeped out - but as they say in the Simpsons - "Won't someone think of the children!" ;)

I like them both, too. I wax and wane how much I like them over the years but I’m definitely a fan.
