  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well, well, well, Donald Trump signing off on his own settlement paid by you and me. And the charity? His vanity ballroom. Not a coincidence. Let us reason, please!
When will Maga stop and think what is really going on here. MTG is starting to make a turn in the other direction.

On a side note:
I had a dream that she repented in front of Congress, apologized for all her hurtful actions against others and renounced her GOP affiliation. Only a dream.....for now. :prayer:

He has also stated that he don't need the money and that he would give it to charities.
I believe him.

The Trump library and many other Trump charities come to mind.

I don't believe any of tax dollars should go on Trump. But Trump supporters were paying for his court cost.
Tax payers pay for ALL congresses court costs

So it's an excuse to funnel federal money into causes that Trump supports, rather than his own pockets? Somehow, that doesn't make me feel any better about it.
A person has a right to decide what charitable organizations they give to ... and it's nobody's business ... if the government was wrong then they should be responsible for it in his case .... just like in any other case.

It would be the height of delusion to assume that the federal government was wrong (in a legal sense) to prosecute Trump. Attempting to overturn an election and deliberately retaining (and attempting to conceal) classified materials are both criminal acts, and there is significant evidence that Trump did (or tried to do) both of these things. Whether that evidence would have been sufficient to obtain a conviction will never be known, since the cases never went to trial, but it's incontrovertible that probable cause existed.

You could argue that they shouldn't have gone after him for political reasons, but that would violate the principle of no one being above the law (that which Trump seems so eager to trot out today), and it would not support a ruling that his prosecution was illegal or somehow violated his rights.

As I've thought about this, I'm starting to wonder if we'll see more lawsuits against the DoJ. As examples, I can see Letitia James and James Comey suing for wrongful/political prosecution. Normally, I don't think these cases would game much tractions but, if Trump does push a settlement through with the Justice Department, I think it opens them up to similar suits. And, it helps that both James and Comey seem to have a lot of "ammunition," between comments made by various federal prosecutors, to include some quitting rather than following orders to prosecute these cases regardless of (an alleged lack of) evidence.
