  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Donald Trump accepted a personal gift from Qatar, the Emir of Qatar, of a jet worth around $400 million (and probably a Trojan Horse.) If you totaled up every bribe in Amreican history before Donald Trump took office for his second term, would they add up to $400 million? I doubt it.

I don't have to defend Obama or Biden but I don't know anything even remotely similar when they were in office.
If Qatar is dumb generous enough to give Trump an airplane, I’m fairly certain that Trump was humbled by the gift and it’d be a great insult to our dear Qatari friends, if the President of the United States would have rebuffed their kind offer.

It’s not crooked if you do it right out in the open, see.

I am not in the business of defending Joe Biden. I wish the Democrats had nominated someone else.

Nevertheless, for comparison, I went to Snopes.com and did a search for “Biden bribe.”

Here is one of the first things to come up.

Snopes Headline:
Does FBI Have Evidence That Joe Biden Received $5M Bribe from Burisma Exec?

Conclusion: “There is no evidence to suggest that Joe Biden, or the Biden family, received money in exchange for political actions. That fact remains unchanged despite the inconsistent and logically incongruous assertions of evidence presented by both Grassley and Comer, as well as Giuliani.”

https://www.snopes.com/news/2023/06/22/biden-bribe-claims/
Wow, Burisma! Blast from the past!

It's obvious that you have an anti Trump bias.
Based on the evidence provided and his history it really does save time to.

If Trump is corrupt, then so are our most recent presidents.
Yes. They all are. But Trump is the most obvious example of a grifter raised up to office by an electorate.

You do understand that a gift to the President of the United States is a gift to the people of the nation.

If your a citizen you shouldn't spit on that, it is rude.

I have nothing for Qatar really, they pour billions and billions into our Universities to propagandize our kids, but this gift was a gesture and so politically you accept the gesture with grace and kindness, and hope that it's a window to some real diplomatic possibilities in the future.

Which honestly it was, perhaps there's hope after all .. we will continue to see what the future holds with Qatar.

So since we accepted the plane is it OK to now to reject the Qatari sharing a base in Idaho?
That might tarnish America’s international reputation.

Is President Trump Corrupt? Take a look at these three stories.

Trump says Qatari jet could be ready for use as Air Force One in 6 months.

Experts are deeply skeptical

https://www.cnn.com/2025/08/10/politics/qatar-jet-trump-air-force

Then, following that incredible story, an even more unprecedented development.

The Trump-approved Qatari base in Idaho should raise major security concerns

To sum up the first story, the Qatari jet to be used as AF1 is possibly worth $400 million, and is a personal gift to Trump. It will cost the taxpayers a billion dollars.

In the second story, Trump issues an “executive order” “Assuring the Security of the State of Qatar.” The order far exceeds Presidential power, it should require approval by the Senate as a major treaty. During the entire Israel/Hamas war, or Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip, the leaders of Hamas were living in luxury in Qatar. Trump’s order puts Qatar “on par with our NATO allies.” Then came the incredible news that Qatar will be allowed to build, or take possession of, a military base in Idaho. Huh?

The USA, and the American people get nothing out of this, but it gets worse. “Back in April, a Trump-owned company struck a deal to open a vast golf resort in Qatar.”

The third story is from the Associated Press.

Trump company strikes Qatari golf resort deal in a sign it’s not holding back from foreign business

Trump company strikes Qatari golf resort deal in a sign it's not holding back from foreign business

To sum up, the Emir of Qatar has given Donald Trump a golf resort deal and then a jumbo jet. In return, Qatar gets a security status comparable to a NATO ally and even gets a military base in Idaho. Congress needs to say NO to all of the above. It is obvious that Donald Trump has sold out America to its foreign enemies.
All three of these stories are nothing burgers. Qatar is not building a "base", just a military facility as other nations have done on U.S. soil. Besides, lots of people from other nations get training at U.S. Air Force bases.

Accepting the jet saved the American taxpayer $399 million dollars. Winning.

The Trump family company cut a deal with a Saudi company to build a golf course in Qatar. So what?

Yes, I said they are sharing a base, though I believe it is a first for a Middle East nation.
How much are they spending on the retrofit? Here is google ai's answer. I don't see that as winning.
  • "Official Air Force estimate: Air Force Secretary Troy Meink testified in June 2025 that the retrofit would "probably" cost less than $400 million. He added that this figure is misleading, as it does not account for many of the specialized, classified systems needed.
  • External and expert estimates: Other defense experts and officials say the costs will be much higher, likely in the hundreds of millions or even up to $1 billion. For context, an earlier project to build two new 747s for use as Air Force One had a contract price of $3.9 billion."

Sounds like a money pit to me that will not be utlized much except for the musuem. A better option would have been to place it in service for Veteran's honor flights.

Well, I know we share training for pilots from Middle Eastern nations here. I used to play soccer with some of them.

I read the estimate was $1 million. Regardless it's a free jet.

Made a of high grade briberium.
Sure but if I give you a car, then you spend 50K retrofitting it, is the gift anything? Yes, but only if you do not use YOUR money to fix it.

Remember, the Supreme Court had granted him immunity so according to the law , everything he does is perfectly within his purview.

The Supreme Court can be wrong. Anyway, the SC granted the President immunity for "official acts." Taking a bribe is not an official act. Claiming to give Qatar a status comparable to a NATO country isn't an official act either, because it exceeds the powers of the President. It would have to be in a treaty ratified by the Senate. The same goes for allowing Qatar to have a base in Idaho, that would have to be a treaty ratified by the Senate. I don't see how the SC decision can protect him in this case.

Trump sure likes to pardon some white collar criminals that commit fraud. What is up with that anyway? He also told the DOJ to quit prosecuting bribery of foreign officials, yet recently the DOJ got involved in smartomatic because they are the ones suing Fox and others for their statements about their voting machines. So lawfare is supercharged in the Trump era.

I was interested in what you said about voting machines. I once did a letter to the editor about voting machines. If you go into a Las Vegas casino, for every slot machine, the software has to be on file with the State of Nevada, the Gaming Commission. For Diebold voting machines, we are told that the software is proprietary, a trade secret, so the public has no right to know.

On the voting machines they were using where I live, at that time, you press a button on the machine and you can see the ballot drop into a box, but you can't actually see where the mark is on the ballot. They have changed the system since then, though.

Snopes is always known as an unreliable source.

Snopes gives us an informed second opinion. I checked Politifact. Apparently Politifact doesn't think claims of bribery during the Biden Administraition are worth refuting.

Exceeds the power of the President? At the moment we are living in a suspended reality.
