  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Congrats Coast Guard and Operation Pacific Viper

U.S. Coast Guard’s Operation Pacific Viper Records Seizure of 100,000 Pounds of Cocaine

WASHINGTON — Today, the Department of Homeland Security recognizes the United States Coast Guard (USCG) for seizing more than 100,000 pounds of cocaine in the Eastern Pacific Ocean since launching Operation Pacific Viper in early August.

Operation Pacific Viper is a surge in forces to the Eastern Pacific to stop the cartels and criminal organizations – cutting off drugs and human smuggling before it reaches American shores.

The operation has averaged about 1,600 lbs. of cocaine interdicted daily since it started. Its new milestone total is the result of 34 total interdictions since August.

“Operation Pacific Viper has proven to be a crucial weapon in the fight against foreign drug traffickers and cartels in Latin America and has sent a clear message that we will disrupt, dismantle, and destroy their deadly business exploits wherever we find it,” U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said. “In cutting off the flow of these deadly drugs, the Coast Guard is saving countless American lives and delivering on President Trump's promise to Make America Safe Again and reestablish our maritime dominance.”

This seems like the right way to do it rather than just murdering everyone aboard as the Navy did.

Kudos Coast Guard!

Just a comment. Cocaine is expensive. Meth is cheap. Meth, being more available, is more of a plague than cocaine.
I never met a coke addict, but have encountered lots of recovered meth addicts.
We had a meth house on our block in a comfortable suburban neighborhood. The house had to be totally made over to be sold.
Pain meds are obviously sold and abused but how much is overprescribed and sold outside of illegal imports.
Blowing up ships is flashy but doesn't address the drugs that are most affordable to our teens and young people.

What on earth does that have to do with the actions of the Coast Guard and Operation Viper?????

It has to do with whet.her the most efficient way to fight drugs in this country is sending boats out into the Pacific.

Not many people can afford cocaine--but it seems as if meth is very affordable (although I've never had the desire to look for any.) I've been told they I49--which extends (with a few breaks) from New Orleans to Winnepeg, is the principal corridor for drugs.

Of course, going into the Pacific fits in better with Trump's thesis (Immigrants-bad) than going along the little rural towns along I49 (red state voters-good.)

But what does it do to prevent the teens and young adults in my community from getting drugs?

Nothing. Trump's naval task force off the coast of Venezuela has nothing to do with Operation Viper, either.
