  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ezra Klein: Charlie Kirk was practicing politics the right way

I'm pretty sure I've said exactly that, so it doesn't trouble me at all.

I don't know why it troubles y'all so much that some people didn't like him in spite of his intelligence and successes.
It’s no problem if you didn’t like him or even to say so its the obsession with him that’s puzzling

Where's the obsession? This latest revival of the thread was someone dragging up a post from two weeks ago to say that "No, you've got Charlie Kirk all wrong! Just watch his videos more and you'll see that he was really just educating the youth!"

Is there something wrong with wanting to respond to that? Then the rest of this is responding to you complaining about someone responding to that.

No, your position is merely inaccurate. Most trans-gender individuals are not gender dysphoric, nor are they"faddists" although I am sure some exist.
What are they if they aren't dysphoric or faddists?
Where did this occur?
Everywhere. Here's something just on "preferred".

If you've looked into the subject of pronoun use in the past, you may have encountered the word "preferred" as a prefix to pronouns, as in the question "What are your preferred pronouns?"

However, it's best that this word is avoided when discussing pronouns. Preferences tend to indicate that one is choosing something, whereas identity is not a choice. "What are your pronouns?" is the appropriate question to ask others, and, "My pronouns are..." is the safest way to share your own.

We really didn't gave this until the 2000s. And grew exponentially. It started with just he/him, she/her and they/them. Then we started seeing more genders, requiring more pronouns. Until we ended up with at least 72 genders and many nonsensical pronouns.

Honestly I wonder where you have been?

I'd watched a lot of the guy in these so-called debates (I've got this thing about online debates so I saw a lot of him, not just after his death). It's not really possible to watch him for any length of time to see what his MO was. And he invariably talked down to almost anyone who took the mike.

He didn't debate. He held court and came out with the same gotchas, the exact same gish gallop of facts all the time. Put him in front of people who had prepared and knew his schtick in a longer form debate and he was shown up.
Well, that's an opinion, for sure.

I think we expect that some people didn’t like him. And we also know who by and large it is.

Whats troubling isn't the "dislike". Whats troubling is the dishonest smears. But that is typical of the left and their tactics. I guess we should expect that I suppose. Charlie and Turning Point was hugely responsible for helping young people to see the validity of conservatism and moving that direction. The youth was a I ways the group the left had in their pockets due to the influence of tge educational system. Charlie was changing that. And much of the left hated him for it and his effectiveness. And now the smears and dishonesty come out in full force.

Rather than debate his ideas they smear and slander the person.
