  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

John Bolton, who served as Donald Trump's national security adviser before becoming a vocal critic of the president, has been criminally indicted on federal charges, and is facing decades in prison.

The Department of Justice presented a case to a grand jury in Maryland on Thursday, and they agreed there was enough evidence to indict Bolton.

According to a 26-page indictment filed at a court in Greenbelt, Maryland, on Thursday, Bolton is charged with eight counts of transmission of national defence information (NDI) and 10 counts of unlawful retention of NDI
.

If found guilty, he could face up to 10 years in prison for each charge.

Ex-National Security Advisor John Bolton indicted for improper handling of classified documents

The list of more than a dozen items seized from the Bethesda, Maryland, home of President Donald Trump’s former national security advisor was included in search warrant documents filed with the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.

Among the technology seized from Bolton’s home were two iPhones — a red one with two camera lenses and a black one in a black case — and three computers, including a silver Dell XPS laptop with cables, a Dell Precision Tower computer model 3620 and a Dell Inspiron 2330 computer, according to the search warrant documents.

He is innocent until proven guilty.

Trump is so transparent.

Cross the 34 times convicted felon and you will live to regret it.

So far, his track record is 100%. Everyone he's gotten indicted is 100% innocent. In a city like D.C., a Trump indictment is the surest sign of integrity I can count on.

Sure, we need to crack down on the mishandling of classified information. Let's get some political precedents going here.

Of course, such precedents could come back to haunt members of the current administration in another 5-6 years...

There is no one above the law - a grand Jury of his peers has made the charges.
Is that really accurate? In the U.S., someone with 34 felony convictions can still become president, yet supporters claim "no one is above the law," highlighting clear hypocrisy.

My foreign policy stance aligns with John McCain or W. Bush, but I find John Bolton's approach overly provocative and destabilizing due to its extreme neo-conservative nature.

I have always considered John Bolton arrogant, believing only he is right about US foreign policy and dismissing others, whether conservative or liberal. His attitude mirrors President Trump’s—both are self-important and egotistical.

Bolton may have violated the law, but the FBI stopped investigating him during the Biden administration. This was not because he was found innocent, but reportedly because Bolton possessed information revealing a significant US intelligence operation targeting Iran, which the administration valued keeping secret over prosecution. In contrast, the Trump administration prioritized pursuing charges against Bolton over protecting intelligence practices related to Iran.

He was charged and sentenced. Thus he was not above the law, nor did he escape it.

And then 78 million American rewarded him the highest office in the country. If you consider that sentence, imagine what others might learn from it; in America if someone commit crime may result in significant rewards.

Trump was sentenced with an unconditional discharge, a sentence rarely given, especially for felonies. Talk about preferential treatment!

Does call into question the charge many MAGA supporters trumpet that the judge was out to get him, huh?

-- A2SG, not that they don't continue to trumpet it anyway....

So convicted felons like Tim Allen, Mark Wahlberg, Danny Trejo, and Robert Downey Jr. have encouraged crime by being successful?

The US Attorney for that district was definitely a Trump somebody.
BY Judge Theodore D. Chuang who was nominated by President Barack Obama and confirmed by the U.S. Senate on May 8, 2014,
It is utterly irrelevant to indictment who the assigned judge in the case is. Judges are only assigned *AFTER* there is an indictment.

Please avoid whataboutism; I'm not interested.

It is a fact that 78 million Americans rewarded an individual with 34 felony convictions. This action suggest to both Americans and the global community that we prioritize political alignment over adherence to the rule of law and personal character. It could be interpreted that economic concerns, such as lower gas and grocery prices, take precedence over the principles of justice and legality.

Justice was served. No law was broken in Trump running for president or people voting for. What's at play is resentment.

You're correct—the US Constitution does not prohibit a convicted felon from running for political office, including President.

However, the message conveyed to the rest of America and the world is that we, as Americans, are willing to accept a convicted felon as our leader as long as he can provide cheap grocery prices.

So much so for county of rule of law.

Since you declared "Please avoid whataboutism; I'm not interested" you shouldn't be bringing Trump's conviction into this.
