  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I’m not perfect, but compared to how vile some people are, who profess themselves to be normal, have a job etc… I have no problem calling myself a saint.

And I wouldn’t know what to do here, and what the purpose of it all is, since they have the upper hand on all levels of society, unless I’m here to witness their demise. Like Jesus said, I’m going to down to see if their actions are as wicked as I have heard.

Elijah felt like you described, but God said to him, “Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.” (I Kings 19:18) Elijah then went back to doing the work God sent him to do.

There are a lot of good people in this world, and all of them are sinners. In Philippians 4:8, Paul wrote, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” On top of this, it is helpful to try to do at least one good work every day. These things will help to take your focus away from the wickedness of this world. Someone once said, “If you stare into the abyss for too long, you will fall in.”

But how you compare with other sinners is not the biblical basis for being a saint, being a Christian. It is whether or not you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. Once you are saved, it should be your aim to live more and more like the Lord Jesus Christ, but even then, I would say it is wrong t compare yourself to other sinners, saying things like, "I'm not as vile as other people."
