  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Because it's already happened to people in Chicago.ICE took America's and possible illegals out of their apartment in the middle of the night. And made them wait Americans and children wait. Until ICE was done. And I seen some of the Portland Oregon. And there was no warzone going on.
Yes this is what happens when you have and support sanctuary cities. When you allow illegals in there are bad illegals that come too. Then you have to sort them out. Which takes time during an operation like this.

People in Chicago VOTED and choose to be a sanctuary city. You have to accept the consequences of such actions.

It still makes no sense.
It makes no sense to YOU. But to some people it makes perfect sense.

Given the immensity of human experience no one person is the arbiter of ‘what makes sense’. It’s a subjective statement.

In this case its objectively nonsensical.

That wasn’t the question I asked.

The President is the Head of the Government of the United States of America, not the Daddy for the States.

If he is, then that’s not how our federalist system operates, and we’re in extra-constitutional waters.

What’s “conservative” about upending the delicate balance-of-powers between the Federal Government and the several States?

We're not talking about "conservatism" anymore, we're talking about right-wing activism.

Slight quibble. The President is the Head of the executive branch. One third of the three co-equal branches of our government.

Head of government is the term usually used in international politics/ political science to refer to the person who is at the top of executive functions of government independent of if they also have control of legislation and courts or are the "sovereign".

This includes the French President (but not the PM) , the British PM (but not the queen), the German Chancellor (but not the President), the president of most Latin American countries, and the President of the US. Some countries are a bit more confusing like Iran where I think the term would refer to the President and not the Ayatohlah. Not sure about the Arab monarchies if it is the King/Prince/Emerate or a designated chief minister. (Today in the Saudi kingdom, there is a living king, but the person running the government is one of his sons the crown prince who would reasonably be labeled "head of government".)

This Saturday's protest could be interesting!

There isnt any upending the balance. There are consequences of policies set by states that hinder federal law. Federal agencies are still allowed to enforce federal law and if a city allows illegals to come and stay then federal agencies are going to go there. There is nothing unconstitutional about that.

No this is about left wing activism. This whole thread is about left wing activism and its violence and obstructionist, rebellious actions.

I of course do not condone violence in the name of protest.

I also wonder at the wisdom of the way you've tried to cast this?
Trump's doing this to distract from the Epstein files he promised to release, and to generate a 'tough guy' image and photo-op.
That's it.

That ICE or immigrants are somehow involved is peripheral to the whole exercise.
It's just more Demagoguery 101 on display: more 'othering' as sociologists put it.

I hope the democratic protests in Portland this weekend are peaceful - and that violent extremists do not tarnish the objectives of this fun Frog-protest meme.

Sounds a bit like a conspiracy theory to me.

Yeah - that Epstein thing married to QANON what about 25% of Americans now seem to believe - it's the conspiracy theory that Trump played to during the campaign. But then someone whispered to him what was IN those files - and is he going to release them? You bet not! So he's annoyed the foaming-at-the-mouth, rifle going into a Pizza shop internet tinfoil hat types.

As for his being an NPD demagogue? That's not a conspiracy theory. That's just a fact. He just is. The way he speaks and appeals to a voter base with baser instincts, and his antics around "Eating the dogs", "Poisoning the blood", "Sending their rapists and murderers" (to tarnish a whole massive minority that is MORE law abiding than the average American born citizen) - that's demagogue 101 according to sociologist text books.

Here's the wiki on Democratic backsliding - just tick these off in your head as you read them?

Trump’s campaigning and government style reek of authoritarian strategies. His rhetoric uses the tricks of the fascists of the 20th century:

CONFIRMATION BIAS and flattery of certain parts of the population by playing the saviour and strongman that will fix the country’s woes.

STRONG MAN language: - tapping into the vulnerable and confused workers desire for answers - their wish for a super-hero like figure to act out THEIR OWN frustration on the world! “I will be your vengeance.” Etc. Psychologically it’s called Identification with the aggressor.

THE BLAME GAME / SPLITTING / OTHERING: Finding a group to blame for all society’s ills. Immigrants took your jobs, radical socialist left assassinates everyone (when the statistics show the right does this 5 times more!) “They’re eating the dogs”, etc.

PROPOGANDA LORDS: Try to control information. Banning comedians, intellectuals from discussing certain things, attacks on universities, attacking the free press. Sound familiar?

These are unpacked on this excellent page:-
