  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

New York Times, AP, Newsmax among news outlets who say they won’t sign new Pentagon rules

Sounds like this Hegseth directive is being broadly rejected by media outlets, big & small, and across the political spectrum.

All of the big ones are in broad agreement (ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox News), and even the very "MAGA-friendly" Newsmax is opposing it as well.

I am surprised Newsmax didn't sign up. Guess there is a line they will not cross.
I imagine, to a certain extent, it was a combo of a strategic move, and a CYA move.

A) Because their journalists who actually work there still probably have some sort of aspirations of "moving up to the big leagues" (as far-fetched as that aspiration may be)

B) They have a portion of their audience that's of the "anti-establishment" ilk, and that portion of the viewer base probably wouldn't have responded favorably to them being the only network that opted basically be "state-run media"

C) That rule establishes a precedent that would prohibit them from doing the kind of "digging for dirty laundry" journalism the next time there's a democratic administration.

...I would imagine the rationale was probably somewhat similar over at Fox News HQ.

How dare members of the fourth estate not kowtow to the Secretary of War!?
Mercy me, whatever shall we do?
