  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A recent court ruling has decided the ownership of church properties in a dispute between the United Methodist Church and the theologically conservative Global Methodist Church.

Judge George W. Smith of the 6th Judicial Circuit, Civil Law Court in Liberia, ruled last month that the UMC rightfully controls several church properties, and not the GMC.

“The GMC and Rev. Jerry P. Kulah hold no legal or equitable right, title or interest in UMC Liberia Annual Conference properties, including worship centers, schools, hospitals and other facilities,” Smith ruled.

Many of the former UMCs in my area opted not to join the Global Methodists. They elected to become non-denoms instead at the split. I am unsure their logic. Possibly they were done with denominationalism after the years of wrangling or maybe they just wanted to avoid paying apportionments to a denominational body. I suspect the latter might be the case for the smaller ones who may have been struggling to make ends meet. Who knows.

Interesting. Do they still follow The Book of Discipline and Wesleyan theology?

I really can't say for certain, but I expect not.
Quite interesting. I wonder why they left then? Because it was "too liberal" so to speak? Hmmm....
