  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

At the very least, it gives us a certain amount of pull.

The host country retains sovereignty over the land the base is on, so in theory...

"Qatar, you're giving some money and material aid to an entity we don't think you should... We'd advise that you stop otherwise we're sending in the bulldozers tomorrow"

As far as people giving the critique of "they support Hamas"... so now that matters? so does half of our graduate students in US universities. At least with them having a large investment here, it gives us some leverage.

If the people on the Qatar air force base start supporting Hamas a little too much, should they be deported if they're only on a temporary authorization to be here?

Or should we just prevent foreign nationals who support Hamas from even coming here in the first place?
It's Hegseth / Trump - therefore it's automatically a very bad thing.

What “left wing”?
I'll field that question... (and even with a left-leaning source)

Per the NY Times article:
Citing revolutionary thinkers, like Vladimir Lenin and Frantz Fanon, it explained how solidarity was essential with members of the so-called Axis of Resistance — which includes Iran, Hezbollah, the Houthis and Hamas — because they oppose imperialism.
Since then, the group has praised a Tel Aviv attack by Palestinian militants that killed seven people at a light rail station on Oct. 1, including a mother who died while shielding her 9-month-old baby. It also praised Iran’s missile attack on the Jewish state that began that evening, calling it a “bold move.”

On Tuesday, the group said it rescinded an apology it made last spring about the behavior of Khymani James, a student who had said in a disciplinary hearing that “Zionists don’t deserve to live,” and, “Be grateful that I’m not just going out and murdering Zionists.”

Mahmoud Khalil was a quasi-leader and spokesman for that group, and people on the left were throwing a hissy fit about him being in line for deportation.

Does that sufficiently answer your question?

I mean, it's the same Trump who denounced Qatar as "The nation of Qatar, unfortunately, has historically been a funder of terrorism at a very high level.”

Looks like the US has been article 5'd as well.

Sec. 2. Commitment. (a) The United States shall regard any armed attack on the territory, sovereignty, or critical infrastructure of the State of Qatar as a threat to the peace and security of the United States.

(b) In the event of such an attack, the United States shall take all lawful and appropriate measures — including diplomatic, economic, and, if necessary, military — to defend the interests of the United States and of the State of Qatar and to restore peace and stability.

So Qatar funds Hamas and lets their leaders hang out in the kingdom, Israel lobs a few missiles onto the base, Qatar regards it as an armed attack on the territory. Oh boy, this is gonna be a hoot!

Dan Caldwell, who was forced out of the DOD during Hegseth’s Signalgate disaster, wrote on X that the joint air force operation was being blown out of proportion.

“The freak out around this is of course totally unwarranted since this is actually a pretty common practice with countries that buy and operate a lot of U.S. military aircraft. Singapore has a similar facility and detachment for its F-15 training unit at this very same airbase,” Caldwell said.

From what I have read, the "freak out" seems to be coming from MAGA....

In any case, Americans should be grateful the Qatris are buying American weaponry and spending money to support the local Idaho economy. Isn't that all part of the wonderful military industrial complex?

Since the left-wing supports Hamas that shouldn't be a complaint from them.
I don't support Hamas. And I don't know any liberal, that supports Hamas. I know there are crazy people on the right and left side. Have you looked at Qatari laws and belief. These laws are reasons Muslims and others people escape. Do they like America. Will these people attack us. I'm not sure why Trump supporters are okay with this. When they don't like or are scared of the Muslim that flee for their lives. Or born in America.

It's switcharoo time again. Now the Right is pro-Islam and the Left is now anti-Islam (while also still being anti-Jew).

This is a lie
Not according to news reports that Jewish students have been mistreated and abused on college campuses by the pro-Palestinian left. And Antisemitism in general from the left.

The bottom line is that antisemitism in politics is not a right-wing or left-wing issue; it’s about right and wrong. We must encourage all politicians across both sides of the aisle to universally condemn antisemitism—full stop.

The left is not anti-jew any more than the right. The idea that it is is a lie. Not even Jewish people agree with you.

Being pro-Palestinian is not necessarily being anti-semitic.

No, the US Air Force got that jet to use as Air Force One. It is not Trump's personal property.
Technically true, the jet is to be upgraded and maintained by taxpayers but for Trump's personal use, even after he leaves office. How many Air Force Ones went to presidential libraries (this one doesn't even exist yet)?

You are equating anti-genocide with pro-Hamas and antisemitism. Being against Zionist expansionism into Gaza and the West Bank is not "anti-jew".

A comittee just voted against setting a rule that would have made it explicit that the plane can't be transferred after/as Trump leaves power too.

No good, that was published in 2020 before the left's mega pro-Palestine anti-Israel craze.
