  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

She has turned into a joke. Something like a deer looking into the headlights. You can’t look away.
Which is unfortunate, because she has a disability. Her 15 minutes of fame have come and went. Hopefully, she is at peace.

She has a disability, but she's smart. Her 15 minutes isn't gone. She will do more important things. Doing good things will help her.

She has selective mutism and was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome. Apparently, she only speaks when it's important? Her words, not mine.

I think I might have selective mutism too. I can only talk in 4-people-or-less situations. 5 or more is too noisy and distracting.

Is there a news article that summarizes what was supposedly on the boats? (I'm not downloading a 2gb file from a random google drive link)
Here are a couple of articles. One mentions 500 tons was collected, but it appears not all of it could be carried on the boats, and another puts the value of the aid that was on the boats at $110,000.

How the Gaza aid flotilla used cameras and data to win global attention

The organisation had huge support from the start. When it sent out an invitation for people to participate, it received 20,000 applications, Faras said. In Italy, a charity called Music 4 Peace began collecting aid donations, with a target of 40 tons. In five days they collected more than 500 tons.

Across Europe, missions started to prepare. The Greek contingent sourced 25 boats from across Europe. When it asked for donations, it received more than it could carry.

Gaza Aid Flotilla Says IDF Intercepted Its Boats; Israel Vows Activists' Swift Deportation

The flotilla reportedly carried humanitarian aid worth over $110,000, including medicines, respiratory equipment, and nutritional supplies, intended for Gaza hospitals.

Israel claims it was only 2 tons.

Israel deports Greta Thunberg and 170 other Gaza flotilla activists

Israeli authorities said they enforced a legal blockade and called the flotilla a "publicity stunt" because it was transporting only two tons of aid in total.

A few images from the file I shared:

And while I'm not going to download a file from an unfamiliar google drive link, if the load of supplies is as big as your claiming, that means they wasted other peoples' money and resources as well that could've been used for other more realistic endeavors.
According to Israel's Foreign Minister, the aid will likely be delivered to Gaza, so not all may be lost.

'Greta and her friends are safe and healthy,' ministry says as Israel intercepts Gaza aid flotilla

Prior to the interception, Israel's Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar called the flotilla a provocation and warned them to stop and transfer their aid through other channels into Gaza.

"Greta and her friends are safe and healthy," the ministry stated. It reiterated its offer to transfer the aid to Gaza through other channels.

Either way, it still seems like this was a vanity project "for show".

40 unarmed sailboats thought they were somehow going to sneak past one of the most sophisticated militaries in the world into an active combat zone?
The odds of successfully breaching Israel's blockade were slim at best, but this attempt and others like it do make the headlines and bring attention to the blockade and its role in adding to the suffering of the Palestinians in Gaza.

I'm saying this as a someone who's revised their viewpoints and become much more "Israel-critical" over the past 3 months -- "Professional protestors" and "media harlots" need to stay way from this situation and not do stupid stuff to "prove some sort of point". It delegitimizes real criticisms.
I don't know, activists with name recognition are more likely to get news coverage than those without, which in turn brings more attention to the cause. For example, there have been more than a dozen flotillas that have attempted to breach Israel's blockade since 2007. Most people probably didn't hear about a majority of them, but a lot of people have heard about the last two because of Greta Thunberg's involvement.

If I said "I'm going to try to sneak canned food and medicine into North Korea by way of 40 sailboats, you want to chip in?" would you do it, or would that charity be put to better use domestically or some other international effort that had better than a 0.000000001% chance of success?
There have been a few humanitarian projects that I've devoted my time and money to in the past that I knew going in had little chance of achieving the desired results, so I would seriously consider giving to a project that I'm passionate about regardless of what the chance of success is. Even failed attempts at helping others have value in my opinion.

Thank you for the updates @JosephZ

When I heard about the situation and what they’d undertaken before their interception a verse came to mind from 1st Peter.

But even if you should suffer for the sake of righteousness [though it is not certain that you will], you are still blessed [happy, to be admired and favored by God]. DO NOT BE AFRAID OF THEIR INTIMIDATING THREATS, NOR BE TROUBLED or DISTURBED [by their opposition].

I follow my share of geopolitical news and agree with the mission and hope the items reach their intended point. Greta’s involvement was significant and numerous protests broke out in response to their capture. Many have lost their lives reporting on the war and their willingness to go is courageous.

Yes I know but I'm asking if they took the video since BPLEE seems to be making a point about that.
