• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

That's ok - don't try and look up ANY counterfactuals.
Do some magic handwaving.
Have a Trump cookie, and soon you'll feel right as rain!

First - these are not predictions. They're estimates. Estimates are numbers extrapolated from the government plans. It's a spreadsheet - not a crystal ball. If this - then that. Mathematics. If the government actually does what it has signed into law - then we can expect this outcome for the budget.

Second - a war or new pandemic could massively throw out ALL economic models and budgets.

So where does that leave us?

1. If this - then that. Is the program you are receiving so willingly reliable? Moral? To be endorsed?
2. Other real world disruptions are possible - but usually make matters even worse than predicted!

Unless you can find a credible agency that has actually DEBUNKED where this report reads the BBB wrong - then you're in denial and are magic handwaving.

You fulfilled the cookie meme.

You've eaten the cookie, and are replying with cookie filled fluffy assertions, not cold hard facts and data.

"Smell good, don't they!"

Predictions is another word for estimates. Please continue to enjoy your liberal cookies because you don't have facts. Instead, you have estimates and predictions. Perhaps you want some kool-aid to go with those liberal cookies?

Still not seeing a direct yes or no.
You first have to answer my question so I know we are talking about the same Republicans

As soon as you give me a direct answer, then I can do the same. Some clarity is needed for an answer.

Thanks

I asked you first.

If you don’t know what Republicans we’re talking about in a thread about the government shutdown then maybe this isn’t the thread for you.

No. I do not.
Since I know I won’t get a straight answer out of Always I’ll just talk to you instead.

Why do you not blame both parties for their inaction?

If neither side is backing down then both are responsible for the gridlock that has brought the federal government to a standstill. I have no problem admitting the Democrats bear some of the responsibility for this shutdown.

Why can’t you guys be critical of your own party?

Nope, not all.
I didn’t expect you to.
Why would we?
It would go a long way to show the right doesn’t want this shutdown to continue. You seem to think this is politically useful for your side. Your answers and calling it the “Schumer shutdown” show this to be true.

Fortunately, it seems the American people aren’t quite as dumb as the congressional Republicans seem to wish they’d be.

  • Thirty-nine percent of Americans blamed Trump and Republicans in Congress for the shutdown, compared to 30% who blamed the Democrats. Another 31% said both sides share the blame equally.
  • Over half (52%) of Americans disapprove of how Trump is handling the shutdown. Fifty-two percent also disapprove of congressional Republicans' handling of the lapse, with 49% disapproving of congressional Democrats' handling.
Zoom in: Just 23% say Republicans' positions are worth having a shutdown over. But Democrats aren't far ahead, with just 28% saying their positions warrant a shutdown. On both questions, 32% said they weren't sure.

The CBO is a bi-partisan and highly important congressional analysis group. If it was not - if it was partisan - it would have been disbanded decades ago. Critique the particular assumptions of the report - and show where the CBO are wrong. Rejecting the entire institution is typical of MAGA - but if MAGA were a more adult culture - they would practice more intellectually credible arguments - and not throw out over 50 years of experience in analysis.

But one thing to keep in mind is the BBB is not in isolation. Trump also launched tariffs which will hurt the American economy, but raise Federal funds by taxing citizens on imports. (It does NOT tax the other countries as Trump claims! )

Yale double checked the CBO's figures and also calculated the impact of tariffs.

Add the 2 together - and the massive raise of funds to the rich comes down a bit - but is still significant considering the RICHEST get even richer as a percentage of THEIR enormous salaries.

But the poorest get even poorer! Those tariff taxes hit the poor EVEN HARDER than the BBB!

But this is just the Congressional Budget Office and Yale University - what do they know - right?
By the time you're done with your bedtime reading - you'll feel right as rain.
