  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

In other words you will not answer. Your belief leads to death but you ignore the obvious.
Sunday is not a commandment of God, but a tradition of man. The Sabbath is a commandment of God, written and spoken by God that sits under His mercy seat. Exo 20:8-11

Jesus answers this very principle quoting from the Ten Commandments

Mark 7:And in vain they worship Me,
Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’
8 For laying aside (saying its not for me) the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men

Mat 15:3 He answered and said to them, “Why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition? 4 For God commanded, saying, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’ 5 But you say, ‘Whoever says to his father or mother, “Whatever profit you might have received from me is a gift to God”— 6 then he need not honor his father [a]or mother.’ Thus you have made the [b]commandment of God of no effect by your tradition. 7 Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying:

8 ‘These people [c]draw near to Me with their mouth,
And honor Me with their lips,
But their heart is far from Me.
9 And in vain they worship Me,
Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’

10 When He had called the multitude to Himself, He said to them, “Hear and understand: 11 Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.”

12 Then His disciples came and said to Him, “Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?”

13 But He answered and said, “Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted. 14 Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch.”

Exodus is part of the old covenant not the new. So you will not answer about the logical unorthodox ending to your belief? Are all that worship on Sunday are living in sin? It’s a yes or no question.

You missed the Christophany. Study the priesthood of Melchizedek.
The word has a different meaning in Mat 5:19. Sabbatismos, in the context of Heb. 4:9 does not mean sabbath keeping. The definition I posted is indeed literal. You can’t make up your own definitions. Other translations even render it as rest not sabbath. When a derivative of a word is used instead of the common word it means that the meaning is nuanced and not the same as the regular word otherwise why not just use the regular word.
NKJV
“There remains therefore a rest for the people of God.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭4‬:‭9‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
KJV
“There remains therefore a rest for the people of God.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭4‬:‭9‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
Nah you can’t make it up as you go. The verse is clear. Let’s look at it again. You can’t ignore portions of scripture to satisfy your belief. He sets a new day BECAUSE “it remains for some to enter it”. He can’t possibly be talking about Israel here but of the church. Many are still yet to enter His rest. This is Christ post crucifixion rest and TODAY means any day. Christ wants us to worship Him daily not just one day of the week.
Our Sabbath rest is in Christ our Sabbath, whose work saves, and not rest in our own works which do not save. . .yes?
“Therefore, since it remains for some to enter it, and those who previously had good news preached to them failed to enter because of disobedience, He again sets a certain day, “Today,” saying through David after so long a time just as has been said before, “Today if you hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts.””
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭4‬:‭6‬-‭7‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬

And Jesus changed it to TODAY. Jesus is God and can change what He wishes.

Exo 20:10 belongs to the old covenant. Jesus brought the new covenant and the new covenant IS different than the old covenant. The Christian is NOT under the old covenant.

The warning is from Eze 20:13 has nothing to do with Heb 4:11. What confession are we to hold firmly to? The gospel of good news of course.

“Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let’s hold firmly to our confession.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭4‬:‭14‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬

Oh now Jesus is not God? Strange argument.

The text is clear. The Christian is not under the law and we worship the lord TODAY.

I did that for you a few posts back and you ignored it. Go figure.

You are reading scripture with a conscious bias. You have to remove your rose color glasses to see the truth. You need to let the evidence prove your case instead of forcing the evidence to attempt to match your incorrect understanding. Every time that one’s understanding causes tension in scripture it means that we are forcing the interpretation. Your interpretation causes a ton of tension.

Absolutely. It is a spiritual rest and no longer tied to a certain day of the week.

Absolutely. It is a spiritual rest and no longer tied to a certain day of the week.
And God's own (Heb 3:11) full-time spiritual rest (Heb 4:4) at that!

Or we can go by what the Scriptures actually say.

Heb 4::4 For He (God) has spoken in a certain place (Mt Sinai Exo20:1) of the seventh day in this way: Exo 20:8-11 “And God rested on the seventh day from all His works”; Exo 20:11

It does not say its Gods own full-time rest anywhere in this verse, nor does it say Jesus is our Sabbath rest, Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath the Creator, not that He is the Sabbath, the creation. We have been warned not to add to God's holy word Pro 30:5-6 as it no longer becomes His word, but ours, which can't save or sanctify.

Just like it doesn't say today is every day, but calling us out of rebellion TODAY, not to harden our hearts today if we hear His voice

Heb 4:7 again He designates a certain day, saying in David, (psa95)“Today,” after such a long time, as it has been said:

“Today, if you will hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts.”

Today means daily- what the Holy Spirit is calling on us daily, if we hear His voice not to rebel against Him and sin, which is breaking God's laws- His version, not ours.

Heb 3: 13 but [b]exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

Iconically, what is being taught here is what this exact warning is about. Eze 20:13 Heb4:11

I know this can't be reasoned with as we are told 2 Tim 4:3-4, so it will be sorted out at His soon return.

Yes, in Christ our Sabbath we rest full-time from all our works to save, and in his work which saves to the uttermost (Heb 7:25).
Your words, not Christ's. Jesus is Lord OF the Sabbath Mark 2:28 , the Creator Exo 20:11 not that He is the Sabbath, the creation. But believe as you wish.

No where does it say because Jesus gives us rest that means we can profane His Sabbath commandment. It may sound good to itching ears, but its not Scriptural.

Christ said:

Mat 11:28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am [a]gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Many believe and teach Christ's rest some how relieves our moral obligation to obey the Sabbath commandment, but is this what Jesus is teaching?

Jesus said this and still kept the Sabbath going to church reading God's word Luke 4:16 as the apostles did following in His footsteps keeping every Sabbath in the same manner decades after the Cross Acts 15:21 Acts 13:42 Acts 13:44 Acts 18:4 as the Sabbath is a holy convocation Lev 23:3 and we see that continuing on in the New Heaven and New Earth Isa 66:22-23

So what rest is Christ referring to?

Psa 38:3 There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.4 For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.

The rest Jesus is giving us when we come to Him is rest from our sins. Jesus came to save us from our sins Mat 1:21 we are not saved in our sins Heb 10:26-30

Sin is:
1 John 3:4 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.
James 2:11-12 For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” Now if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. quoting and contrasting directly from the Ten Commandments breaking one we break them all
Rom 7:7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, “You shall not covet.”
Rom 14:23 But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith; for whatever is not from faith is sin.

We also see this play out in the last days

Rev 14:11 And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.”

Compared to the antidote found in the next verse

Rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.

If we understand Christ rest, it will help us understand Hebrews 4 much better as it is speaking of two rests, not one.

We are invited to enter into Christ rest, just like the Israelites, Heb 4:1 but many didn't enter due to disobedience (sin) even through the same gospel was preached Heb 4:6

Why the Holy Spirit is calling us "TODAY" to come our of our rebellion (sin) and enter His rest quoting directly from Psa 95

Heb 3:7 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says:

“Today, if you will hear His voice,
8 Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion,
In the day of trial in the wilderness,

9 Where your fathers tested Me, tried Me,
And saw My works forty years.
10 Therefore I was angry with that generation,
And said, ‘They always go astray in their heart,
And they have not known My ways.’
11 So I swore in My wrath,
‘They shall not enter My rest.’ ”

Why there is another day spoken of, which is TODAY God is calling us from our sins and come unto Him and He will give us rest from the burdens of sin but we need to enter through faith Heb 4:2

What did the Israelites disobey during their trial of the wilderness that led them to not enter into Christ rest

Eze 22:13 Yet the house of Israel rebelled against Me in the wilderness; they did not walk in My statutes; they despised My judgments, ‘which, if a man does, he shall live by them’; and they greatly defiled My Sabbaths. Then I said I would pour out My fury on them in the wilderness, to consume them.

Why the next verse says there remains a Sabbath-rest for the people of God Heb 4:9 and the Sabbath rest is according to the commandment Luke 23:56 because breaking God's law is sin 1 John 3:4 James 2:11-12

The next verse clearly shows these two rests

Heb 4:10 For he who has entered His rest has himself also (in addition) ceased from his works as God did from His.

God ceased from His works on the seventh day, Heb 4:4 Gen 2:1-3 just like God commanded us to Exo 20:8-11 as we were made in His image and likeness so to enter His rest one also ceases from work on the seventh day Sabbath. Exo 20:10

Heb 4:11 Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience

We don't want to follow the same mistakes of the Israelites who sinned and never entered their rest in Canaan, which is a type of heaven. The same applies to us to enter in Heaven Rev 22:14

12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

In Christ rest no one is in rebellion or breaking God's law, why there is just peace
Isa 48:18
Oh, that you had heeded My commandments!
Then your peace would have been like a river,
And your righteousness like the waves of the sea.

Jesus is coming soon and we need to come out of our rebellion to Him and obey Him and His commandments, His version, God’s own personal Testimony Exo 31:18 written personally by God, His law and will Psa 40:8, It’s why we see the ark of the covenant, which holds God’s personal Testimony, the Ten Commandments written and spoken by the God of the Universe revealed at the last Trumpet before Jesus comes in all His Glory Rev 11:19 as it is the standard of what God will judge all man 2 Cor 5:10 James 2:10-12 Ecc 12:13-14 Mat 5:19-30 Rev 11:18-19 Rev 22:14-15 and removing anything God covers under His mercy seat which below sits God’s Testimony His Ten Commandments, laying it aside as to say its not for me, I do not believe that's going to work out so well as Jesus taught plainly Mat 15:3-14 Mark 7:7-13

So lets be willing to forsake our sins Pro 28:13 and come to Jesus, He will give us rest.

Sin is breaking God's laws 1John3:4 James 2:11-12 His version, not ours.

If we doing something in place of one of God's commandments, and choose not to change our ways once we learn the truth, this is what Scripture says. I am not the judge nor want to be, I can only go by what Scripture says. God will be our Judge, He tells us what He judges us by James 2:11-12 Ecc 12:13-14 Rev11:18-19 Rev 22:14-15 John 12:48 and like anything, we can choose to believe His words or not.

Heb 10:26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. 28 Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” [g]says the Lord. And again, “The Lord will judge His people.” 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

The majority in Scripture never got it right, I think following the majority now, is going to be the same result. At the end, its up to God. As for me, I will continue to follow His word the best I can even though I know what I believe is not popular. God said the path was narrow and it would be just a remnant who keep His commandments Rev12:17 but I believe this is the path He tells us to take and will reconcile His saints one day soon Rev 14:12 Rev 22:14.

Your words, not Christ's.
I didn't write Heb 4:8-10, Mt 19:28:

". . .if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day.
There remains then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God;
for anyone who enters God's rest also rests from is own work, just as God did from his." (Heb 4:8-10)

And that rest is from our own work to save, and in Jesus' work which saves.

Jesus is our full-time (Heb 4:4) Sabbath rest (Mt 19:28) from our own works to save and in his work which saves to the uttermost (Heb 7:25).

So yes in your view. All professed Christians that worship on Sunday are indeed living in sin. If a person lives in sin continually and does not repent then that person is not saved and goes to hell, therefore all Christians that worship on Sunday are living in sin and do not repent of their sin consequently they are going to hell.

Congratulations your theology just condemned the vast majority of professed Christians to hell. Except you of course.

Of course you didn't, but its your interpretation, which is not matching the Scriptures,

Joshua never changed the Sabbath nor did David, what the author of Hebrews is quoting. The another day was entering into their rest which was their land- entering into Canaan

Josh 1:13 “Remember the word which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, saying, ‘The Lord your God is giving you rest and is giving you this land.’

Jos 1:15 until the Lord has given your brethren rest, as He gave you, and they also have taken possession of the land which the Lord your God is giving them. Then you shall return to the land of your possession and enjoy it, which Moses the Lord’s servant gave you on this side of the Jordan toward the sunrise.”

The another day to enter was 40 years later into the wilderness because of their disobedience to God's commandments.

Eze 20:13 Yet the house of Israel rebelled against Me in the wilderness; they did not walk in My statutes; they despised My judgments, ‘which, if a man does, he shall live by them’; and they greatly defiled My Sabbaths. Then I said I would pour out My fury on them in the wilderness, to consume them.

Why this passage in Hebrews 3 and 4 is warning us of the exact thing that is being taught, today if we hear His voice and not harden our hearts to the deceitfulness of sin. Heb 3:7-19 Heb 4:11

God judges us based on our knowledge. If we turn from the truth after learning it, He tells us what happens. Psa `119:151 Heb 10:26. As I stated I can only go by what Scriptures state, I never condemned, I provided Scriptures. If one thinks because they are in the majority that means there automatically saved, I think the story of Noah tells us something different. God destroyed everyone but 8 people. Jesus said His Second Coming is going to be like the days of Noah. God does not love us more than the people that came before us that were disobedient to Him. We can either learn from Scripture and turn from sin or continuing in the path one is heading. Our decisions make up for which result we will receive. Rom 6:16 Rev 22:11 Rev 22:14-15

No, but its your interpretation.
And you did not exegete Heb 4:8-10, demonstrating my error.

You simply asserted my error.

Talk is cheap. . ."Clowney don't play like dat."

Yes the allegory of the two covenants, one came by flesh, what man did, like when Sarah took it upon herself to fill God's promise that He would make Abraham a great nation by conceiving a child with Hagar a bondwomen, versus allowing God do so by His promise through Sarah.
Nope, that is not Scripture. No where does the scripture any such thing. She was faithful.
Both Ishmael and Isaac were children if his flesh, only one a son of Promise (royal seed).
Hagars actions are the issue, not Sarah... she obeyed what Abraham said.

Gen 16:4 And he went in unto Hagar (princes), and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.

This continues with

His other sons of flesh Esau and Jacob. Same mother, and father. Isaac loved Esau, Rebekkah loved Jacob, that is why it was said to her while they were still in the womb. She was not favoring one over the other like Isaac was, in his favor of Esau. Isaac was very angry when he blessed Jacob unwittingly. Not by Isaacs will....But GOD's

This is what showed it was not being by the flesh alone
The first covenant was based on the people doing Exo 19:8, verses the promise of what God will do Heb8:10. Why the NC is established on better promises Heb8:6
The Above concerning the women discerns between the Heirs of Genesis 15, VS Genesis 17.
Which covenant is the promise of kings (king/priests) the kingdom of priests.

Ge 17:6 And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.
Ge 17:16 And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her.

Sarah didn't take it upon herself to have another women have Abrhams child instead of waiting on God's time. Can you show this to me in Scripture please.
Both Ishmael and Isaac were children if his flesh, only one a son of Promise.
Can you show me by Scripture where Isaac didn't come from the promise of God, verse please
