  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How to Respond to the Cross-Dressing Man at Mass? DIFFICULT MORAL QUESTIONS: What we do and what we tolerate both witness to what we believe.

Q. I was recently at a Mass that was attended by many young families and their children. It was also attended by a young man who came dressed in women’s clothes and received Holy Communion. What should the response be from a parishioner who witnesses such a thing? More importantly, what should be the pastor’s response? Even if the young man received sacramental confession before Mass, wouldn’t this still be an issue?

A. After examining reasons why such incidents are so harmful, I will consider the question from three perspectives: the young man himself presenting himself for Holy Communion, the other parishioners, and the parish priest.

Where’s the Harm?

What is harmful about this young man presenting himself publicly for Holy Communion while presenting himself as a woman? I’ll focus on four harms: confusing the young, scandalizing the weak, discouraging and alienating the faithful, and harming himself.

First, the young are especially vulnerable to confusion by the errors of gender ideology, especially young men and women who themselves suffer from confused feelings about their bodies.

Reminds me when a “sister of perpetual indulgence” (gay man/drag queen) went to Mass and received Holy Communion. Their hypocrisy and bigotry against the faithful angers me so much! Ugh!

I visited a church that had men in drag in the choir. The priest was a liberal pastor who didn't have a problem with it. I quit visiting there.

It's also very common in the ELCA Lutheran Church. One bishop from Sioux Falls, SD is transgender but still goes by her female name. (I don't think she is an active Bishop, anymore though).

(Gene Robinson, the first openly gay bishop of the Episcopalian Church, is well on in years and divorced from his "husband." Hopefully he repents before it's too late).

(I have no idea if his parents are still living or not. I doubt it. They were present at his ordination back in 2003, and dressed him in his vestments. They were part of a small Disciples of Christ congregation, which is also very pro-LGBT).

A Catholic church.
A "Catholic" church having "men in drag in the choir"? Who is the "bishop" of this travesty? Literally, a wolf in sheep's clothing, the smoke of satan, counterfeit of the breath of the Spirit. Reminds me of the church in Thyatira (Rev 2:20), "But I have this against you, that you tolerate the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess and is teaching and beguiling my servants to practice immorality and to eat food sacrificed to idols." These are satan's workings, confusion through contradiction, liars cross-dressing as prophets of God.

Who is pretending to be the "bishop" of this diocese?

I wonder if the bishop is even aware? :(

When I was unsure which church to become a part of, an ELCA friend of mine invited me a couple times to her church, but I never went. I didn’t know they were as liberal as they are at the time but their church was too far for me to drive anyway.

FTR: I read the article.

FTR:

My immediate and considered response (I had both before and after reading the article) is:

How about we mind our own business and leave the poor person to God ?

As a little kid I saw all kinda person at the communion rail and nobody cared what I saw. Adulterer, wife beater, mother stabber, father raper, no one cared if I had questions. I turned out fine.

That priest passed away and the bishop is retired. (This was 10 years ago.)

I have no answers, in the pastoral sense, for this situation, but I do have a question:

What if somebody showed up at Mass dressed as Satan, horns and all?
What if they came dressed as Hitler, complete with swastika armband?
How about if somebody showed up topless---or even naked?
Or wearing a t-shirt with blasphemous messages on it?
Or dressed as the Ayatollah Khomeini, complete with turban and a sign reading "Death to the infidels"?

Would it still be "right" to let them come in, and to receive Our Lord's Precious Body and Blood, dressed (or undressed) in such a manner? Where is our cutoff point? Where do we say, "This you can do, but this you can't"?

I agree with you but isn’t it a little hypocritical that us women can wear pants but men can’t wear dresses? I dont want to see a man wearing a dress but there was probably a time when women wearing pants was scandalous.

There is no sin, that I am aware of, in cross dressing.

This pearl clutching stuff HAS to stop.
It's a sin because it's a sexual fetish, deviant.
The "pearl clutching" phrase is so passé, BTW.
