God didn't remake the planet, He simply altered it to suit His needs. (Separated water from water to reveal a portion the dry earth, provided an atmosphere, set the sun and moon to provide light and to be markers for the seasons, etc.)

Based on the wording in Genesis 1:2, we see that the planet was already here, was completely covered in water, and had no visible beauty, (like the others planets).

God saw this dark, water-soaked ball of clay, that had no natural beauty, and decided it would be perfect for His home... (a bit of a fixer-upper)

[ if you don't understand the difference between earth (dry land) and Earth (the planet), you won't be able to see this. ]

But certainly, God expects us to come to Him for wisdom, and these insights, personally.

He promised that if we ask Him, He'll give us more answer than we can ever learn from years of studying doctrine.
