  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If what he actually did say was so bad, then why the need to build it up into things he didnt say?
Riddle me this: why did you answer my question with an unrelated question?

You did not succeed. Is there a third option other than stupidity or malice?
Pandering to the audience.

Personally I think it was totally stupid to go with such a hot take based on vastly incomplete initial reports. Stupid works for me here.

Not to mention Kimmel flat out said it was MAGA that did it.
Flat out? No, he didn't; he implied that the one who did it, Tyler Robinson, was MAGA, was one of them. At that time, it had been reported that his family was MAGA and registered Republicans. We found out later that he was while not a Democrat, registered non-affiliated.
Bradskill isn't being fully honest. I heard what he said.
Yeah, you have an unfortunate habit of accusing people of dishonesty, which is the least charitable interpretation, ruling out mistaken, for instance. This indicates projection.
Kimmel also lied through his teeth in is reappearance. The government never took him off the air and never threatened to.
Have you read Donald's posts? You must have, by now, heard that Brendon Carr, who wears a Trump-face lapel pin, threatened Disney/ABC.
They never told the stations they had to remove him. He spent the whole time blaming the government for his suspension instead of blaming himself for lying about who the shooter was. And now he's lying again.
Kimmel shouldn't have implied with such certainty that the shooter was "one of them" but I have no reason to think that he didn't believe it was true at the time. The joke was not about the shooter, the shooting or Charlie Kirk but with how Donald responded to the question of how he was holding out after the death of his dear friend.

Donald's response? "I think very good. And by the way, right there you see all the trucks. They just started construction of the new ballroom for the White House, which is something they've been trying to get, as you know. for about 150 years. And it's going to be a beauty. It'll be a absolutely magnificent structure. And I just see all the trucks. We just started, so it'll get done very nicely and it'll be one of the best anywhere in the world actually. Thank you."

What a guy! He's showing signs of dementia.

As Kimmel wittily remarked, that is how a four year old mourns a goldfish.

This observation by Kimmel was entirely correct, even if his other one wasnt.

I mean, the reporter was very gracious about the whole thing, and led really nicely with condolences. And Trump: yeah Kirk whatever... but look at the trucks! one of the worlds best ballrooms anywhere.....

(We'll see when the '26 or '27 ballroom rankings come out.)

Whether he "lied" or not is not the point. He should be free to say what he wants. And yes, a government official did threaten ABC if something wasn't done. Even Ted Cruz got that message...and strongly objected.

I agree he should be free to say whatever he wants short of advocating violence and that the FCC chairman should have stayed out of it.
The broadcasters are taking care of it.

Some of them are. Others who have important business coming up before the FCC are not taking care of it.

Also this goes higher than the FCC. We heard the president himself saying hed like to see licensing pressure against outlets that he considers political opposition.

I agree with both of those.

It still bothers me tho that we have in the USA a president who just doesnt value the liberties outlined in the constitution. I mean, these are at the core (along with other things) of what actually makes America great.

I think he has to be reminded frequently of what he can and can't do, and tries to do some things regardless of what he's told

We had the evidence within about 24 hours of the shooting. Even with no evidence, this was Charlie Kirk. If you were a gambling man you'd be a fool not to bet that the shooter was a lefty.
I'd tread carefully and not jump to simplistic conclusions. I watched a podcast of The Weekly Show yesterday when Jon Stewart was talking to Charlie Warzel, a staff writer on The Atlantic. He writes on politics and communications. Comms being X, Youtube, chatgroups, Tic toc etc.

It's over an hour long, so I don't expect anyone to listen to it. But the guy had a lot of interesting, and depressing things to say about shootings carried out by younger men. And making a political point quite often has nothing to do with it. He covered so many points it's difficult to precis. But in any case, the kid doesn't represent any political party. Doesn't represent 99.99% of any of us.

And you'll note that anytime I have referred to the killer I don't use his name. It was a point that Warzel made - that some of these people, generally in their early twenties, are looking for notoriety. The 'target' is chosen for maximum effect.

Trump has nothing to do with that
You need to look into the background of the decision. From here: Stephen Colbert's 'Late Show' canceled by CBS, ends May 2026

Thursday’s announcement followed Colbert’s criticism on Monday of a settlement between Trump and Paramount Global, parent company of CBS, over a “60 Minutes” story.

In his Monday monologue, Colbert said he was “offended” by the $16 million settlement reached by Paramount, whose pending sale to Skydance Media needs the Trump administration’s approval. He said the technical name in legal circles for the deal was “big fat bribe.”

“I don’t know if anything — anything — will repair my trust in this company,” Colbert said. “But, just taking a stab at it, I’d say $16 million would help.”

Trump had sued Paramount Global over how “60 Minutes” edited its interview last fall with Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris. Critics say the company settled primarily to clear a hurdle to the Skydance sale.

And from Trump, a year ago: Truth Social

'CBS should terminate his contract...'

You can still hold to your stated opinion. I have reached a different conclusion.

Did he? I didnt hear that. What I heard was Kimmel implying the killer was himself maga.

Saying that the movement as a whole somehow did it is entirely different. Please show whare he flat out said that.
C'mon man rhats what maga is right? I mean even on this board people refer to maga as a group. Just like you refer to the right and
I refer to the left.

When you say it was one of them or one of their own its a reference to a group that one of them did it. Which was a LIE.

No it wasnt an implication. It was an accusation.

“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them.

Thats an accusation. Stop deflecting.
Yeah, you have an unfortunate habit of accusing people of dishonesty, which is the least charitable interpretation, ruling out mistaken, for instance. This indicates projection.
Lol, no it doesn't. When you purposely leave stuff out in order to make it sound like so.ething else its disingenuous at best and dishonest at worst.

I might cut him some slack if I havent been reading his posts forever.
Have you read Donald's posts? You must have, by now, heard that Brendon Carr, who wears a Trump-face lapel pin, threatened Disney/ABC.
Trump is entitled to his opinion. Carr didn't threaten anyone. You are being disingenuous again.

What exactly did he threaten them with? What was he going to do to them?
Kimmel shouldn't have implied with such certainty that the shooter was "one of them" but I have no reason to think that he didn't believe it was true at the time.
Baloney. To come out with that definitive a statement without actually knowing is a flat out lie. Kimmel is a hard core leftist who hates conservatives. Anyone who thought this was maga involved is as stupid as they come. And to blame them is, well I dont know what to say.

We all knew in a VERY short period of time what was left behind and this was a leftist.

Donald's response?
Nice deflection. Rhis is about Kimmel.
