  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow confronts Kamala Harris over sidelining Pete Buttigieg ‘because he was gay’

Buttigieg “would have been an ideal partner — if I were a straight white man,” but he was “too big of a risk,” Harris continued.

She's correct. Don't you agree?

I don't know if she's homophobic or she's accusing most Democrats and Independents of being homophobic.
I mean she must be talking about people who would vote for her otherwise.
That's not the right
And you agree with her?

She's talking about people on the fence, who might be swayed one way or the other.

Just like some people didn't vote for her on the sole basis of her being a woman. I've seen interviews of people saying that they would vote for Harris, but that a woman just can't do the job of US president because they might cause a nuclear war because of "hormones". No joke.

She's obviously referring to the electorate at large. And given how tight elections are, a few swing voters who won't vote for a homosexual could very well make the difference.

I see. So you're okay with discrimination against gays when it could affect the outcome of an election. Thanks for clarifying

Hey, she's just being honest right?
Let's take it to its logical conclusion, "We can't hire the gay man because it might be bad for business."

Why should someone's sexuality matter? Really?

It shouldn’t. If someone can do the job their sexual orientation is irrelevant. Kamala’s statement is blatant hypocrisy

So youd have no problem voting for a gay president?
Hey! If he (or she) shared my values and did a good job, I wouldn't. Who cares who someone is attracted to? Not my monkey, not my circus.

Fun fact: It is speculated James Buchanan might have been gay. But it has never been proven. There's also rumors about Lincoln's sexual orientation. It really hasn't become a political issue, regarding sexuality, until the late 20th century, eh?

It didn't matter to the Biden Administration which picked many LGBT folks for a variety of positions. But it somehow mattered to Kamala Harris. Because votes.

Tell us what you really think Kamala.
She's not wrong. She's not saying that she thinks he's incapable or not a good person or something is wrong with his lifestyle. She's saying that being elected is as much a game of odds and appealing to as wide a swath of people as possible. Having a gay man as a vice president nominee would lose her more people than she gained as there are plenty of people who wouldn't elect a gay man AND a minority woman.

I'd like to think we will reach a point where we won't have to worry about such stupid things, but listening to a family member tell me across the July 4th table that they would never, ever vote for a woman for president... It's a factor that has to be accounted for. A minority female and gay ticket won't chip away at the Trump base.
