  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Anyone familiar with Bishop Barron's writings?

Hi, I've been watching Bishop Barron's interviews and I enjoy what he is professing. Is anyone familiar with any of his books? Im thinking of purchasing this one, for a better understanding of Catholicism in simple terms.

Thanks

Well, I just received the Bishops book along with some other goodies. I felt a little lost during my first "Sunday " Mass since pre 2011. I have only read a few pages of the book, but it looks like its going to be a good read. I will follow up in a few weeks. Im still reading a bit of the NT every day.

I read a lot of Scott Hahn when I was converting he was a fellow convert. I also read about many Saints and the Catechism. (Which I recommend). Bishop Barron has a lot of good info but I do have issues on certain things… I really think your best bet is seeking out the teachings of the Church as well as the Saints. A lot of things we see these days is really just so much fandom stuff. I’m not downgrading Bishop Barron. God will speak to us through different vessels as we progress in the different stages of our journeys to edify and help us grow.

Here is his website where you can find all his books and videos...

I would recommend also to watch the dvd box set companion to the Catholicism book. You can find it at reduced prices at various online stores or used. Maybe even at your local library.

I've read Catholicism by Bishop Barron, and enjoyed it.

I'm with Michie. I've read many of Scott Hahn's books. They're wonderful!

I listened to Bishop Barron's Sunday Sermon's every week and have watched him
on various programs including Dr Jordon Peterson's series on the book of Exodus.

I never found anything he teaches to be contrary to Catholic Doctrine. He often
quotes the Catholic Catechism, in his talks.
