CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

That's not the point. The point is it angered and upset a lot of people. Saying Kimmel got suspended for making an inaccurate statement is disingenuous. He got suspended because of what that statement resulted in. It did a lot of damage.
As a side note: In January 2022, while discussing a Tennessee school board's ban of Art Spiegelman's graphic novel Maus, Goldberg said the Holocaust was about "man's inhumanity to man," not race. Despite other co-hosts attempting to correct her by pointing out that the Nazis considered Jews a different race, Goldberg insisted that the perpetrators and the victims were "two white groups of people"
So Whoopie's remarks were indeed a matter of factual inaccuracy.

They thought he did. A lot of people thought that Kimmel was having a go at Kirk. He wasn't. He was showing Trump to be the person he is. His comments were about Trump and some of the rusted on MAGA people trying to divert any attention away from the possibility that the kid was a right wing nut.
That diversion was irrelevant. Which was part of the point Kimmel was making. The kid doesn't represent anyone except himself.

Kimmel didn't say anything of the sort and I doubt if any reasonable person would have thought that. Kimmel's point was that MAGA people were strident in denying that the kid was right wing. Suggesting, and in some cases claiming with zero evidence, that he was a liberal. Kimmel was pointing out that immediately after the shot was fired there were people trying to score political points.
Were there people on both sides of the divide doing that? Yes, unfortunately there were. But Kimmel's audience is left wing so he berated the right. Big deal. He was preaching to his choir. Don't like that? Well, tough luck, buddy. I'm pretty certain that you don't watch his show so if he has a go at MAGA and Trump then what's it to you? Go watch Kirk saying things that you'd prefer to hear or go listen so some right wing podcast.

How come that sentiment doesn't apply to Alex Jones, when he said the Sandy Hook shooting was fake?
If people didn't like what Jones was saying, they could have tuned into anything else.

Because Alex Jones went way beyond just saying it was fake. The parents were harassed endlessly, even after moving several times. Jones encouraged it, and actively sought out the parents to "expose them" on camera. The two are not comparable in the least. Do some basic research on his case.

I guess only a post in this forum could compare Jones and his utterly disgraceful and execrable comments about the deaths of so many young kids and the further agonies it caused their parents with a late night talk show host having a dig at Trump.

Yes, his actions resulted real harm to the victim's families.
What harm did Kimmel do? Oh, that's right. He called MAGA out for poltiically exploiting Kirk's murder within hours of his murder.
