  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

French President Macron says France will recognize Palestine as a state (UK, Canada, Straya too)

There is Israel proper, and then there are the Occupied Territories. The main ones being Gaza (occupied Egyptian land) and the West Bank (occupied Jordanian land).

There is a Palestinian Authority government, which has some international recognition, but as yet, it doesn't really have a country to go with it.
Before Israel was an official country in 1948, it’s my understanding it was all Palestine, correct?

I consider it a partially recognized, partially self governing pariah. It isn't a country, it's a terrorist enclave. Every time they are given a chance at democracy they choose to go the path of pariah and launch pad for attacks on Israel. They have instituted rebellion and strife in any country that they have lived in, Jordan, Lebanon, the "West Bank" (Judea and Samaria), Egypt, Gaza. They attempted to overthrow the government of Jordan and were expelled.
Thanks for the response.

What about those peaceful citizens of Palestine?

Even the Christians that are left?
Being a Christian doesn't necessarily make one on the "right" side. There have been many misinformed or otherwise incorrect people that are Christians. I am often one of them, depending on the subject, we all are.

PM Albanese said he wanted a Palestinian state that does not have a Hamas leadership.
Problem is that in any democratic state will be a Hamas state, I'm sure they will rebadge it like the Sinn Fein and IRA but Hamas has through action like the current recognition has entrenched itself as the voice and power of Palestinians people.
Hamas controls Gaza (well, now, sort of), not the West Bank or the Palestinian Authority.
For better or worse terrorism has been rewarded. Along with bipartisan policy in Australia on this topic.
(That is not to say that the excess of Isreal is not an evil in this awful situation)
For another example look into the King David Hotel bombing.
I still believe that the best solution is Egypt to control Gaza and Jordan the East Bank, then 20 years of development leading to a Palestinin state, with leaders that are not up beyond their elbows in horrendous actions. A Palestine that is lead by Hamas or a Hamas proxy., will just continue the endless cycle of bloodshed,
Hamas doesn't control the PA.

The region was called Palestine, but it wasn't a country. It was run by the British after WWI, and by the Ottoman Empire before.
