  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

ABC pulls Jimmy Kimmel Live after comments on Charlie Kirk

I really can't blame Trump.for hating his opponents after what they have done and tried to do to him. Include killing him like they killed Charlie.

He has real reasons to hate them. I'm not saying he's right to hate. As believers we are called to love our enemies and to forgive those who have sinned against us. But lets be honest shall we? That's not easy to do.

Rhe left is so full of hate and we've seen it in is spades regarding Charlie, yet they still want to call out rhe fact that Trump said he hates his opponents. Why don't we just admit that a lot of people struggle with that. We have so many on the left spewing hate when they themselves, were not the victims of anything. The problem with hate is it can lead to vengeance. And vengence more often than not leads to really bad outcomes.

I hope the president eventually figures this out.

Kirk's wife is a good example to all of us. God bless her for not giving in.

Kudos for admitting Kirk was a better man than himself
That’s not what that says.
Charlie’s dead and I’m not, is what it sounds like to my ear.

I don't think so. The question doesn't offend me though, if that’s what the intention was. I'm a Catholic, so never really heard of Charlie Kirk until his assassination, though my 14 year old was a fan of his, which i didn't know until she discovered Kirk’s shocking death, and began telling me about him.

...But I can't judge his character because I never followed him. What I will judge, though, are those who take jabs at him, after his death, because I think that's tacky and plain trashy.
What he said in life has already been, (you know), said.
His horrific murder won’t change the timber of the tone.

First they support the LIE to link the Kirk assasin to MAGA, now they LIE, and blame the Trump administration for taking Kimmel off the air.

...I really wish the devil would just go back to hell, and stop brainwashing our citizens with this mental illness.
And on top of that is playing the victim. "The autocracy is out to get us".

A bit of an overreaction, no?

1. "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" was not cancelled. It was suspended.
2. ABC made the "decision alone" in the same way that a bank teller gives the man with the gun some cash "on their own". The FCC Chair threatened ABC affiliates with the destruction of their business and they started to comply by preempting the broadcast of the show.
I bet if I research it, I'll find a bunch of times the FCC has issued a warning / ultimatum to a network. Showing that that along with people getting suspended or fired from a network over something they said is nothing new. But of course this time out of all the others it's the big bad autocracy out to get the poor lefties.

Funny how we haven’t had such problems to this degree when other Presidents were in office. Sure, comedians and news people all irk Presidents to one degree or another, but the quote from Chairman Carr:
”They have a license granted by us at the FCC that comes with it an obligation to operate in the public interest," Carr told Johnson. "I mean, look, we can do this the easy way or the hard way. These companies can find ways to change conduct to take actions, frankly on Kimmel, or there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead." Carr likened Kimmel’s comment to "news distortion," which is against FCC’s rules for broadcasters.

isn’t a veiled threat, it was out in the open, don’t use the airwaves to say mean things about our friends!

Let's not forget what Biden was doing with trying to shut down speech using the governement.

And as far as we know now, the FCC didn't tell anyone that Kimmel had to go. It was local affiliates that said they weren't wanting to support his programming. When people saw his blatant lies and smears they'd had enough.

Yep that played a huge part in it. It's a business out to make money. It was probably already not making enough money. The combination of complaints from affiliates, sponsors and viewers was enough right there to at least put the show on hiatus.

Wow, such a nice network, it’d be a shame if anything ‘happened’ to jeopardize it, isn’t a sentiment one would like to hear coming from the government official whom has control of your fate.
Sentiments like that from government officials resulted in lynchings during Jim Crow.

Never happened.
A Republican tried to kill Trump on July 13, 2024. Hundreds of Republicans tried to assassinate Pence & Pelosi, and overthrow the government, Jan 6, 2021. The conspirators who plotted against Whitmer were sentenced in Dec 2022, though Trump is talking about pardoning them, which is another example of the right promoting violence.
