  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Did the FCC threaten ABC and its affiliates over Roseanne's comments?

I'm not aware of that being the case for Roseanne...

However, in an interesting turn of events, Jimmy Kimmel getting the boot from ABC happened on the 24 year anniversary of Bill Maher getting the boot from ABC. (Maher got in trouble on September 17th, 2001)

That one wasn't without controversy either due to the fact that the perception was that Maher's removal was due to political pressure from the party that was in power. You had congressmen indirectly calling for boycotts, and the (then) press secretary, Ari Fleisher, made that comment publicly about "Bill Maher should watch what he says" which fueled speculation that the removal of "Politically Incorrect" was due to politics.

And the show that replaced Politically Incorrect on the network after it was cancelled?... Jimmy Kimmel Live!... the very same one that just got the boot on September 17th, 2025.

Just thought those were interesting "factoids"

Right - that was the point.

That is, indeed, an interesting coincidence.

What proof is there that the decision to suspend Jimmy Kimmel’s show was made by the Executive Branch via the FCC?

The circumstantial events are, well, overwhelming. We'll see if a lawsuit is filed to "prove" the case in court based on the evidence.

People were super sensitive right after 9-11, and called for some stupid things. It a bit like the covid emergency. Norms get unbalanced while circumstances seem dire, then we find our way back for the most part.

This time looks different as indications right from the top tell us the exec branch would like to flat out censor politically opposed speech generally.

It's the corollary of the point he did actually make. Hey, a black pilot! Are we safe? Because gee, he might have got those 4 stripes just because he's black, not because he's a good pilot.
You're confused. That's not the corollary of the point, that is the point. And it's different from what you said before.
And I'll point this out yet again. Kirk wasn't an idiot. He knew that the implication was bat guano crazy. You'd really have to be an imbecile to think that an airline would drop their standards for minorities in regard to hiring pilots. So I'll let you give us your explanation of why he said what he did.
I've already given my explanation. You seem to think Kirk was the first person who ever voiced this concern. It was being discussed a couple of decades before Kirk was born.

The standards are not lowered in any way that would affect combat performance.

Women and men don't differ in their ability to tolerate G-Forces, which is a big consideration in flying a combat fighter plane. Assuming that a given woman is tall enough to fit into the cockpit of a particular aircraft, there's no physical reason she can't perform that role. Shorter, stockier people actually have an advantage in handling G-Forces compared to taller, thinner people.
I wanted to just copy and paste the complete result I got from Grok, but it's in chart form, so the formatting gets all messed up. Anyway here's some of the studies I referred to:

Marine Corps Gender Integration Study (2015) - Mixed-gender units performed worse in 69% of tasks (e.g., speed marches, live-fire exercises) compared to all-male units, with higher injury rates (40% vs. 18%) and slower evacuation times for casualties.

RAND Corporation Report on Women in Combat (2015) - Integration could reduce unit effectiveness if physical standards are lowered; women had 2-3x higher musculoskeletal injury rates, potentially straining medical resources and readiness.

Swedish Armed Forces Study (2018) - In mixed units, women showed 20-30% lower performance in strength-based tasks (e.g., carrying loads >20kg), leading to 15% slower unit response times in simulations.

There are some studies showing neutral or minor positive change, but these tend to be peripheral things like unit retention and morale.

Its weird watching you totally be disingenuous with the truth.

Have you missed all those on the left who have celebrated his death? I doubt it. Those who have excused his death with, OH it was tragic.... but.....

Then there is the right who is devastated by this assassination and pointing out the truth of the rhetoric from the left that led to his death.

The right hasn't fomented any violent rhetoric in response. They have been grieving and speaking out against the violence from the left.
All of y'all need to get over this disingenuous finger pointing.

I see celebration on both sides when someone is brought down. Both sides do it, and both sides are wrong for it.

Grow the heck up.

That's why you see so many poor polo players. WFTH-I

Do you realize you wrote that where people could see it?

How is golf played cheaply? Yes, you do need to spend money to "pick up the basics" of the game because at the very least you have to be on a course or in a costly indoor facility to learn to stroke.
If you're making a blind post you should state that in your post, so people don't wonder why you're addressing something that has already been dealt with.

That's a nonsensical statement. I love America, for all its faults. Trump? He despicable. If anyone hated America then they'd consider Trump a bonus. Putin springs to mind.
Hmm, that would explain why antifa members are always wearing MAGA hats.

Oh c'mon. It was Kirk's implication.
It absolutely was not. It's something you want to think, because of your hatred for him or something. You're trying to accuse a good man of being racist, and I'm tired of hearing it. He hasn't even been buried yet.
Shuffle to the right, deflect to the left.
Don't know what that means.

Which murders have people on the right celebrated?

"Celebrate" is what people on the right call it when someone simply points out how the victim might have been less than a saint.

So we have be make sure we're comparing apples to apples here.

Not sure if this is "celebrating", but I would argue that this is pretty gross :

Texas State asked him to either step down or face expulsion.

Some of the comments on BlueSky have been pretty awful, too.

Yeah, stuff like that is pretty despicable and should be condemned. But then we get people saying that Kimmel's monologue was somehow "celebrating" Kirk's death too, which waters down the accusation.

This is an issue that faces both sides of the political divide in the US - I see frequent complaints here about how accusations of "racism" are over-used, for example, and this is a similar situation.

Which is irrelevant to the topic.
Fine, I googled it for you.

Kirk said, "If I see a Black pilot, I’m going to be like, 'Boy, I hope he's qualified.'"
I am glad to see you admit that your comment was irrelevant to the topic.

You must be referring to the murders of children.
It is that type of lying rhetoric that got Charlie Kirk killed. I am politically asking you to stop. Unless you are suggesting that liberals are not phased by the murders of children. If that is the case, it makes sense seeing how the left supports abortions.
