  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

That's not what truth is stranger than fiction means. It means a particular event is so bizarre or astounding, that it sounds made up but it's true.
No, because someone can always concoct a lie that is stranger than truth, but why would they? The purpose of a lie is to be believed.
In the case of many Charlie Kirk mini-debates with college students, they'd make a statement about something they didn't know enough about, and Charlie would take it apart with facts. So that's were truth would win out over malarky. The challenger would issue a fallacious statement, Charlie would take it apart with the truth, and the challenger would be left stammering or they'd issue a personal insult and walk away.
"Something they didn't know enough about" is not necessarily a lie. Someone can easily not know enough about the truth and be confounded by a clever liar (Eve, for instance).

This is not a very thorough analysis of the video.
If one part of the debate are free to just stack arguments whether they are true or not, that is just a (badly performed) gish gallop. There is still tax on tips and tax on overtime as well, the bill just made a portion of it deductible under some circumstances. It's disingenuous debating.

The killer was radicalized by the left that is fact . Per his own family!
In this case “The Left” was one troubled young man. And “radicalized?” No free choice in the matter? Like ignorant little sheep?

True but the definition of the phrase"truth stanger than fiction" is: an expression that means real-life events can be more bizarre, unusual, or unbelievable than even the wildest fictional stories
"Something they didn't know enough about" is not necessarily a lie. Someone can easily not know enough about the truth and be confounded by a clever liar (Eve, for instance).
The word I used is "malarkey". Which is closer to "nonsense" than "lie". Often Kirk's challengers would confront him with erroneous misinformation they believed to be true. And being like a human encyclopedia, Charlie would dismantle them.

Is threats of physical violence now progressive protected free speech?
Under Critical Theory, it's moral for the Oppressed class to threaten physical violence against the Oppressor class.

How do you know it's misinformation rather than someone who didn't know enough about the subject to successfully debate a skilled liar?

Why, only because you chose to believe the one who may merely have been a skilled liar.

Or spew a large quantity of his own erroneous misinformation that they were not prepared to counter. Same difference, really.

Because Kirk took it apart with facts and if they weren't demonstrating much skill. They were 20s US college students after all.
Why, only because you chose to believe the one who may merely have been a skilled liar.
Facts are easy enough to verify. There were a lot of very knowledgeable people who respected Kirk. I doubt they would have if he was a liar. Unless you want to start going into conspiracy theory territory that they were all in on it or whatever.

Again, there are extremely knowledgeable people who respected young Kirk and admired his level of knowledge.

Okay? Fortunately I have eyes and ears, I don't need to take the word of these supposed "extremely knowledgeable" people on this.

You shouldn't have look up stuff for people when they can easily look it up themselves.
I just had a random thought. I with all these liberals getting fired, I wonder if they are going to blame Trump for the sudden jump in the unemployment rate?

Are you suggesting tens of thousands of liberals are being fired?

Just think how great it would be if all our our political foes were suddenly “out-of-work”!
They’d be too busy trying to stay alive that they’d chuck politics altogether and let someone else do it!

That’d show ‘em!

Again I say, if they believe someone should be killed because of their opinion, they should not be upset for being fired because of their own opinion.

Who was it that started cancel culture?

How far back are we going? Because stifling dissent has been an element of human society since, basically, the beginning of time. By definition, it's a "conservative" act in that it seeks to maintain order, control, and the status quo, regardless of where the rest of the actors' political philosophies lie. One could argue that the crucifixion of Jesus, for example, was a manifestation of cancel culture. Fast forward a couple thousand years and it was practiced by authoritarian regimes on both the right and the left throughout the 20th century. In the US, McCarthyism and black listing were a pretty prominent example of it, as were the attacks on anybody who'd dare upend segregation, even by integrating their own business.

Black women started the modern concept of "cancel culture" specifically to identify and stop supporting black celebrities who did not respect black people and black causes...the "Uncle Ruckuses" among black people.

As they did with "woke," white leftwing activists appropriated the concept for their own purposes.
