CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A person is in custody in the shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, President Donald Trump said on "Fox & Friends" Friday morning.

"I think, with a high degree of certainty, we have him in custody," Trump said.

He later added, "Subject to change but the facts are the facts we have the person that we think is the person we're looking for."

Any killer needs to be caught, but he's only 22. I hope he doesn't get the death sentence. He's not old enough to remember a time when politics was not so divided nor before social media and disinformation existed. What he did was terrible, but society needs to take some responsibility too. I also hope that the fact that Kirk was well known, popular and a friend of Trump's will not affect the sentence. It's irrelevant how good or popular the victim was, taking a life is the same for a celebrity as for a tramp. The law must be applied fairly.

It's amazing what his father did turning him in. He is an honourable man putting doing right before his own interests. It must be terrible for the family, as well as for Kirk's. The situation is tragic.

I agree about Trump apologising to the Democrats. On another thread we were agreeing, as I think many are, that the rhetoric needs to be turned down, then Trump says those things about the Democrats. He can be so divisive.

Fact check: Shooting suspect did not donate to Trump’s campaign​

A false claim that Tyler Robinson donated to Trump’s 2020 campaign is spreading fast online.

While US Federal Election Commission (FEC) records show that a Tyler Robinson who lived in Utah made a $224.48 contribution to Trump’s re-election campaign in 2020, it is not the man suspected of killing Kirk.

The FEC filing shows the donor’s address was in St George, Utah. But the suspect and his family have been living at their home in neighbouring Washington since 2005, public records show.

The accused shooter was arrested in St George, however, adding to the confusion. But he was 17 at the time the donation was made.

The Tyler Robinson who made the contribution in 2020 was listed as the co-owner of the home in St George at that time, along with another Robinson whose first name does not match any of the suspect’s relatives.
