  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What happened is tragic and shocking, but assassinations have taken place for centuries. And before bullets there were arrows.
Yup. Ever seen Braveheart? Lots of death and no guns. People used other weapons to destroy lives. It’s tragic!

Now, whenever I think about Charlie Kirk there is a passage of the Bible that comes to my mind.

No apology for the comrade remark to me? Noice.
FWIW, I deleted that post myself before the thread was shut down, but my response to you saying I deleted it was deleted, for some reason, in the clean up.

The theme that's common (between those early days and now), is that the one who draw that type of reaction are the ones seen to be the "most difficult" and who have "the ear of the people"

It's not even who says the "most nasty things"

The people who are chalking it up to "Charlie said hateful things, and thus, drew hate" are missing the mark on that one.

It seems like it's more of a "they make a compelling enough argument that we can't easily refute with a bumper sticker rebuttal, grrr. that makes us furious, therefore we need to portray them as the moral enemy of all the principles we hold dear"

Ultimately (and this isn't to cheapen or diminish what happened), it's a sign of intellectual laziness -- which breeds violence.

"I don't want to take the time to think of a constructive reply, I just want people to go along with my way, and I don't want to have to put effort into it, therefore, it's time to take a shortcut"

This isn’t about right or left. A 31 year old man just lost his life. His wife is widowed and his children are fatherless and orphans by the bible’s standards. Can we please set aside our finger-pointing for a moment?

And while you do pray for the three teens who were shot at a high school as we speak. This is a terrible day for the innocent.

Children regularly get slaughtered in america's schools and threads about those events turn into predictable political posturing on page one. Why should this be any different?

American children are shot to death quite regularly in school or even church.... But now a line has been crossed.

It's not laziness so much as just inability. They're incapable of supporting their bad ideas with reasoning.

Why is this even a post? It’s patently ridiculous.

Lacking empathy, and realizing you were wrong about something you previously believed, are two different things.
I never said otherwise, which is why I think you saw me say I have empathy and confused it for me saying I have apathy.

MSNBC OUTDOES ITSELF!

In some truly Pulitzer Prize deserving reporting, we learn that:

1. the shooter may have been a Kirk supporter firing off a gun in happy celebration of Kirk being there;

2. Trump may use this assassination as justification for sending troops into Orem, Utah as he did in D.C.; and

3. if you have awful thoughts and express them with awful words you should expect awful actions.
What’s the article title on MSNBC so we can read it, for those of us who don’t click random links…

It's what I've observed. That's why it's a post.

Although, I wouldn't be too surprised if you're correct and after a few news cycles people move on as if it was just another day in America.

I will say the remarks on this thread are entirely different on the (now buried) school shooting thread from a few weeks ago. Read the first pages of that to this, I’m shocked by the people rattled by this who were able to skip on over the dead kids to espouse their anti-gun control ideology. Some of it I think is the shock of seeing it play out on video, but…

MSNBC is a television channel.
I am aware. They have a website they share their content on, so what’s the name of the article? Or is that just a link to a site run by whomever for an editorial critiquing something on MSNBC?

I doubt that they provide text transcripts of every segment they air. If you find it on their website you'd still have to click a "random" link.

So according to him, it should happen in order to keep the guns. Did he think he was exempt from who it should happen to?
This tragedy has nothing to do with guns - but people feeling justified in committing acts of violence and murder due to nothing but disagreement.

What you said is truly vile. You need Jesus.
