  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Banning assault-style weapons is not the only thing that needs to change. I showed earlier that high capacity magazines have been used in over half of mass shootings with 6 or more killed. They are also used on the streets by criminals and gang members who kill and injure many people each year. Combine this with waiting periods, red flag laws, and universal background checks on all gun purchases and transfers, including private transfers and sales, and thousands of lives will be saved each year.
the gangs do not care there is LITERALLY no way to get the guns off the street without causinng more violence than it is worth NONE people who mean harm to themselves or others are going to do it one way or another. Really between suicide, other crime, homicides that would happen anyway ( wanting a particular person dead which means they will use whatever method they have and gang wars you are left with very few gun deaths that are not releated to one of those things anyway.

When I say other crime I am talking about situations where a gu is used say in a robbery or something where ANOTHER crime is going with the shooting as opposed to JUST a shooting.

so in those decades we would still lose people .
Yes, it will take time, but every day we wait to take action, the more people will die. If we would have done something 20 years ago, tens of thousands of men, women, and children would still be alive today, including 8-year-old Fletcher, who was killed by an assault-style weapon just yesterday.

Plus, what if someone did NOT make it easy for them to access the gun you destroy the gun anyway ( even current asset forefiture law dos not work like that. That is to say that if someone honestly does not know their property came from or is being used for illegal purposes he or she will not lose it ( now if they reasonablly should have known they will but if they truely did not know they will not lose their property just because it was used in a crime
The gun would be destroyed after an investigation.

so would that mean that they could get their gun back if it was found through investigation that they did nothing wrong?

funny enough we did something the ban lapsed in 04 so we have done something that lasted at this point less than half as long as it has been gone.

Police respond to shooting at south Minneapolis church; multiple victims reported, shooter dead

Richfield police confirmed reports of 20 victims, adding that a man dressed in all black and armed with a rifle was reported at the scene.

Suspect ‘contained’ after shooting reported at Minneapolis Catholic school: authorities

Authorities say a suspect has been “contained” after a shooting occurred at a Minneapolis Catholic school on Wednesday morning.

Gov. Tim Walz said on social media that he had been briefed on a shooting at Annunciation Catholic School, located on the city’s south side. Police told local news outlet KARE that an active shooter allegedly opened fire at Annunciation Church.

It’s unclear if students, who had their first day of classes on Monday, were in the church at the time. The pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade school had an all-school Mass scheduled at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday morning, according to its website.
My heart is with the relatives of the deceased, and pray they be comforted in their moments of sorrow.
So many lost souls out there are available tools for the Devil and his angels, whom have been cast down on this earth. Revelation 12 :9-12

It shouldn't have been allowed to lapse. Now there are over 25 million assault-style weapons in the US and they continue to be manufactured and imported.

Banning guns isn't an option in the US, so maybe you should start to reconsider that position and join with the majority of Americans that want to see stronger gun control measures, including a ban on assault-style weapons, so fewer people will be maimed and killed by firearms going forward.

bingo it is not an option so instead I would have no issue with maybe tieghter sentences (for gun crimes only though that comes with another set of issues namely that there is NO way our system could work without plea bargains, better mental health treatment and encouraging ( though not mandating people to say something if they feel that someone may be planning something or otherwise a danger to themselvs or others (Though there there would need to be afe gaurds to prevent people from reporting others out of spite.

that was not my point. My point is you want to save lives true? If so, then is it better to save 1 or 100? If banning assault weapons saves say 1 yet baning regular guns could save 100 then why not the 100.
If you really want to save lives, how about banning motor vehicles? Over 40,000 people a year die motor vehicle accidents in the United States each year. Why not just ban personal use of motor vehicles? In fact there is nothing in the Constitution specifically prohibiting it, that is, we don't need an amendment. Easy fix.

Motor vehicles aren't designed to kill.

no but they kill 10,000s a year as well and can actually kill more than guns if done in the "right place" Same with drugs which funny enough the "drug war" has failed so badly it is not EVEN funny.

So your primary goal is not to save lives? How about half way,, would you accept a maximum 35 mph speed limit on all roads? That would save many lives. The manufacturers could limit the maximum speed.

Understand that a gun may be just as important to an individual as a car is for you.. You might say, why should I not have the convenience of a car just because some people misuse it?
