  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Drugs don't do anything to people unless they use it. I guess that means we shouldn't be regulating drugs.
Alcohol doesn't do anything to people on its own, just if it's abused. I guess that means we shouldn't limit access to alcohol.
Cars don't hurt anybody, it's the people who drive them that do. So by all means, let's drop requirements for driving a car.
Owning a nuclear weapon does nothing unless somebody uses it. I guess that all means we should get nuclear bombs.

Objects don't hurt people, people with objects do. So apparently that means we have no business regulating an object so all things should be legal and freely available to all people at all times.
The issue is that they are trying to regulate the people who do not need regulating for one thing. People who can be trusted with guns do not really need laws and people who cannot be trusted with guns do not care about laws.

So the dead kids are the Mayan-like sacrifice we make at the altar of the gun gods. Acceptable losses in exchange for being able to own a vanity item.

Notice none of you offer up your kids on the altar of the gun gods for the sake of freedom... Somebody else's kids? That's fine. But were the government to say we need to kill your elementary-aged kids for the sake of freedom, I suspect you'd be a little more hesitant.

And I'm not sure "I need guns in case I want to resist or overthrow the government" is the sane reason for gun ownership you think it is. Frankly, I think that's a red flag for why you don't need a gun, not a call to why you do.
I personally do not own any guns shocker why I KNOW I have no business with them. I would love to own guns and carry, but I realize that in my case neither my eye sight or motor skills are good enough to have a gun.

According to information being released during a live press conference, the shooter had a rifle, a shotgun, and a pistol. Two children ages 8 and 10 have died. There are 17 injured, including 14 children, some critically.
Ugh! So, so heartbreaking! :(

NY Post showing some social media stuff allegedly from the killer; he may have idolized mass shooters including the one from Sandy Hook.
Remember that day very, very well. :( I’m speechless

because we are not addressing it correctly we are doing the wrong things. Plus not having God in the schools, but as this area is a secular part of the forum that is really not an issue to hold water.
This happened at a Catholic school, not a public one. No God in school? God is everywhere.

Tragic situation, regardless. Ugh

What is nonesense about stating that most shootings are not true mass shootings with little clear motive.
The nonsense is claiming that's what you said.

I don't have a problem with alcohol. I can drink it and gauge my ability to drive. So can most people. Most people can be trusted to drink and not drive a car.

Let's deregulate alcohol. Just because some people drive drunk and kill lots of people doesn't mean I, a responsible drinker, should be unfairly targeted.

I don't think anyone expects gun legislation to be a cure-all for gun violence; however, a ban on assault-style weapons, in addition to other gun reform measures, such as a ban on high-capacity magazines, red flag laws, and universal background checks on all gun purchases and transfers, including private transfers and sales, would save many lives. At least two of these would have been helpful in preventing the number of casualties and the severity of injuries in today's tragic event: a ban on assault-style weapons and high-capacity magazines. Once all of the details are made available, there may be one or two others.

I'm a gun owner. In fact, there's a Springfield XD40 locked in one of the drawers of the desk I'm typing this response from. I am 100% in favor of stronger gun regulation.

my point was that I KNOW I have no business with guns so I volunterily do not personally own any (though there may be some in the house) I do not need a law to tell me not to have a gun. I live in a state that does not require a permit I have no record and am at least 21, but yet because I know my lititations do not own a gun On the other hand if I did mean harm and wanted a gun I may not really care if I could get one or not.

Sources told KARE 11 that the shooter was 23-year-old Robin, formerly Robert, Westman.
Brace yourself for the anti-trans scapegoating we're about to hear until the next mass shooting replaces this one.

Funny how most gun deaths are actually not with assault weapons which means that that would not really save as many lives as people like to think.

Don't underestimate the power of prayer as prayer can do anything God can and God can do everything.
I don't underestimate prayer. But as this keeps happening, it means we need to act.

The children were praying when they were shot.
