Trump opens door to 600,000 Chinese students amid Beijing trade talks

Move reverses previous administration plans to revoke visas for Chinese nationals

Donald Trump said 600,000 Chinese students would be allowed into the U.S. to study at colleges amid ongoing trade talks with China.

Speaking at the White House Monday, the president's announcement signals a potential thaw in U.S.-China relations after escalating tariffs and restrictions on Chinese students.

In May, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced plans to "aggressively revoke" visas for Chinese nationals, particularly those tied to the Communist Party or sensitive research fields.

Trump has since shifted tone, telling reporters in June that he has "always been in favor" of welcoming students from China.

He's got 'em right where he wants 'em.

it is part of a negotiation - like he did with the EU, the UK, Japan, etc. etc.

But hey, it is an opportunity to cast dispersions, so run with it. Makes it all the more fun when he succeeds - again

Meanwhile 600,000 are paying tuition - 600,000 are paying housing - 600,000 are purchasing things right here in America. The left might be more accepting if we just paid for all their expense like they they did the millions flooding in during our open borders time.

So Marco Rubio was wrong about the national security threat posed by Chinese students? We've gone from revoking visas to printing them faster than ever?

Sounds like it. But from here: Trump hints at deportation of Communists if he’s re-elected

'“Using federal law, section 212 (f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, I will order my government to deny entry to all communists and all Marxists,” he said. “Those who come to join our country must love our country. We don’t want them if they want to destroy our country…. So, we’re going to be keeping foreign Christian-hating communists, socialists, and Marxists out of America.'

And for your further interest: Party People: What Kind of Students Join the CCP?

'About one-third of all new Party members each year are drawn from college campuses.'

I'm sure that all those at the Evangelical “Faith and Freedom Conference” in Washington, which is where he made that statement above will think it's a brilliant example of negotiating. By the CCP. Maybe someone should ask those evangelicals what they think about Trump lying to them. Maybe we could ask you?

This is at the expense of the Trump admin cutting Pell grants for US college students.
The left would like to see the US invest in American students to make America great.
We already seen Musk and the Swammy complain they just can't find those educated Americans to fill jobs so they rely on foreigners.
Why don't we fix that instead of making China great again, regardless of another pronouncement where NO trade deals have actually been completed.

Trump tries to explain a U-turn — and conservatives are furious: ‘Out-of-touch to new levels’

President Donald Trump is facing scrutiny after doubling down on his administration’s plan to allow hundreds of thousands of Chinese students to study at American universities.

[First announced in August (the OP)] criticism is again mounting, after Trump was pressed on whether the move should be viewed as a “pro-MAGA position” during an interview on Fox News released late Monday.

“MAGA was my idea. MAGA was nobody else’s idea. I know what MAGA wants better than anybody else.”

“We do have a lot of people coming in from China. We always have, China and other countries,” Trump said on “The Ingraham Angle.” “We also have a massive system of colleges and universities, and if we were to cut that in half, which perhaps makes some people happy, you would have half the colleges in the United States go out of business.”

Yeah right, just more right wing hypocrisy. Those 600,000 Chinese students will more than the illegal immigrants, that Trump has been throwing out. But providing no more economic help.

I like how he just tells his supporters what they’re are going to go for. Can’t have people forming their own opinions now.

President Trump is a Grand Master of four dementia chess, the average person will never be able to wrap their head around the strategy.

Purely anecdotal, but I've heard graduate programmes in the US are very heavily sustained by Chinese students, so it doesn't surprise me.

Maybe this will help struggling faculties like the humanities.
