  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Senate Democrats this week blocked the confirmation of Brian Burch, President Donald Trump’s nominee for U.S. ambassador to the Holy See, stalling the nomination process ahead of Pope Leo XIV’s installation Mass this Sunday.

Burch, co-founder of the political advocacy group CatholicVote, must now garner 60 votes in the Senate, a three-fifths majority, after Democratic senators invoked the filibuster on more than 50 low-level nominations. A filibuster is a Senate tactic allowing senators to delay or block votes by extending debate, requiring 60 votes to invoke cloture and proceed to a final vote.

“I never thought I’d see the day when Democrats would be willing to block the nominee for ambassador to the Holy See simply to score political points with their far-left radicals, but it seems they’re still searching for rock bottom,” Missouri Republican Sen. Eric Schmitt, a Catholic, said in a statement to CNA.

Used to be that a presidential pick requiring Senate confirmation routinely got most of the votes from the other party. Even for Supreme Court nominees.

Up until the Democratic Party became the "pro-choice" party, many Catholics were Democrat.

That said, I'm not surprised many Democrats hate the Catholic faithful and the Catholic Church.

Democrats have nothing left politically other than to vote against everyone and everything the republicans propose.
Pretty accurate. They did dump Mr. Hogg in a strange bit of turning against the most woke parts of their party. Waiting to see if that backfires on them as the woksters rebel against the less woke.

It feels weird to look back and see that that Scalia was confirmed 98-0 and Ginsburg 96-3.

Sad that Democrats have no actual platform. Unless you call Orange Man bad a platform.
People that resort to that sort of juvenile name calling and snark no matter which side they are on are just showing their true colors. I have no interest in people like that. It’s like watching a performing poodle trying to please the pack.
