  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Man Faces Felony Charges After Subway Attack on Federal Officer in DC

A 37-year-old man hurled a Subway sandwich at a federal agent in the nation's capital. A video of the incident has gone viral, in which the man can be seen standing along with agents and suddenly whips his deli sandwich at one of them in the chest.

This could be a new trend. Years ago in a small mountain town I was visiting I read the local paper and I will never forget the headline; "Violence Mars Weekend!" What had happened is a tourist threw a sandwich at local teen and struck him in the back with it. Not sure what happened to the tourist. Hope he was sentence to hard labor.

I was really tempted to write Submarine Attack on Federal Officer.

Checkpoints, citizens.

ICE checkpoint operation angers D.C. residents

ICE and local police stop drivers as angry crowds chant at officers

The checkpoint operation began around 8 p.m. at the intersection of 14th and W streets NW, transforming a normally bustling commercial area into a scene of confrontation. More than 20 officers, many wearing face coverings and tactical vests marked HSI for Homeland Security Investigations, positioned themselves in front of popular businesses including a chain bakery, veterinary clinic and outdoor apparel store.

The mixed force of federal and local authorities stopped cars for violations ranging from broken taillights to seat belt infractions, though witnesses said officers appeared to have broader intentions.

According to [rideshare] passengers, officers inquired about immigration status alongside standard traffic stop questions.

Local residents quickly mobilized to warn others about the checkpoint.

The diverse crowd included longtime residents, young professionals and families who happened upon the scene during evening activities. Many expressed shock at seeing federal immigration enforcement conducting operations in their neighborhood, particularly in such a visible commercial district typically associated with restaurants and shopping rather than law enforcement activity.

Checkpoints? In my neighborhood? It's more likely than you think.

What is the emergency?
Does having elected a narcissist with delusions of competence, with a cabinet where loyalty to Dear Leader is more important than any measure of practical skill, experience or sanity, count as an emergency in this context?

Citizens in action....love it.

Local residents quickly mobilized to warn others about the checkpoint. A group rushed into a nearby CVS store and emerged with makeshift signs reading “Police checkpoint ahead” and “ICE” before heading south to alert approaching drivers. Someone set up a speaker on the sidewalk playing “Ice Ice Baby” while others shouted legal advice to stopped motorists.

Protesters encouraged drivers to request badge numbers and exercise their right to remain silent. One woman directly addressed the officers, telling them they were betraying their duty to protect and serve the community. She warned them about their role in history and questioned whether this aligned with their original motivations for joining law enforcement.

Given that it's in DC, I'm counting down the hours before some idiot in a tactical vest and mask does a full whoopsie* and harasses/detains someone on a diplomatic passport...

...one video circulated on a pair of D.C. subreddits over Monday and Tuesday evening showed a group of armed federal agents confronting a group of younger Black men as they were hanging out on the porch of one the young men’s homes.

“Tell your boys...don’t be smoking outside, don’t be drinking outside. Because Donald Trump is tired of it,” one U.S. Park Police officer tells the group says in the video.
You forgot the part where the police officer shouted "DC is MAGA country now!"

The District of Columbia government filed a lawsuit on Friday challenging the Trump administration’s “brazen usurpation” of the city’s authority by trying to take control the D.C. Police Department....

The suit argues that both President Trump’s executive order on Monday federalizing the Police Department and a follow-up order by the U.S. attorney general “far exceed” the president’s authority under the Home Rule Act of 1973, which granted D.C. its limited degree of self-government.

Such an attempt to “upend the command structure of the Police Department” risks “endangering the safety of the public and law enforcement officers alike,” the suit says,

Looks pretty safe to me.
In my limited foreign travels, seeing armored vehicles and masked military lining the streets did not provide me with a sense of safety and security.

WaPo/George Mason poll of 604 Washington residents.

Starts with an interesting deep cut using past surveys on how residents feel about their neighborhood as a place to live. Net positive responses have grown from 56% in the 1980s to 89% today.

Biggest problem facing the city? Trump & Trump take-over, followed closely by crime.
