  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Should this be universal? Should males who are disabled or otherwise unable to serve be denied the right to vote? I'm reminded of Starship Troopers (the book) "Service guarantees citizenship".
Yes. Every male has to register for the draft. If their number is called, they still go to MEPS to be screened for fitness for duty. If they are medically unfit, they are dismissed and have still fulfilled their civic duty.

Cool. So women went to register for the draft, found out they couldn’t, and were dismissed and thus fulfilled their civic duty.

Yes. But women are not required to sign up for the draft. Can you just imagine the feminist outrage if Republicans made women sign up for the draft? The streets will be flooded with blue haired feminist women to protest.

I never said I was opposed to women voting. I am opposed to them voting without being required to register for the draft. I thought I made that abundantly clear.
Ah, so we can forget the biblical interpretation then (and gee, it was only just proposed!). We're back to the draft now. And you don't want those who can't sign on for the draft being able to vote.

You know, I think we covered this. Do you remember? I said that that argument also excludes you as well, because if women can't sign on and they lose the vote, then men who can't sign on will do so also.

Not many people would sacrifice some of their freedoms on such a principle. But it looks like you are one of them. Will you still be joining in political discussions in the thread now we know that you have courageously forfeited your right to have any say in any decisions as to who gets elected?

Which is why I emphasized the requirement for selective service, not biblical instructions.
OK. So here's the plan.

All men in the country, both citizens and non-citizens, are legally required to register for the draft when they turn 18. You want to extend this to include women, which is fine with me. The right to vote will be conditioned on registration--in fact registration to vote and registration for the draft will become a single act.

That seems fair.

Well...chivalry is dead because feminism killed it.
Fortunately, human decency lives on in some of us.

Weird fantasy.

The draft was abolished 52 years ago.

I see. So, to be clear, the only thing that allows one to be fit to vote in your view is if they can be called upon by the government to die for their country. This is the sole criteria by which we are to classify citizenship in your view?
