  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It will serve to “segregate and separate“ the civilians from the terrorists.
Hey that's good! I hadn't thought of that.

I think it's too early to tell on that one...

Given that the international community is getting increasingly "Okay, enough" towards Bibi (as is half of the MAGA base here in the US, and 75% of the Democratic party)

Full-blown occupation at the expense of losing all your allies could spell disaster for them.
Another thing I don't understand is how so many European people can turn their backs on the Jews, who have been with them all along, for hundreds and thousands of years.

...these are our friends, who are connected to ancient roots, yes, but have adopted many of the same types of living standards as the European has - and that's because we have all been connected to one another for so long.

Folks use the word apartheid just for drama points. ^_^
And that's probably the exact reason I struggle to grasp it in it's completeness.

There's a distinction to be drawn between "The Jews" and "The Israeli Government/Netanyahu"

He's no more a codified representative of "The Jews" than George Soros is...yet, conservatives don't have any difficulty critiquing him.

From an international diplomacy perspective, The Netanyahu government is "a friend"...in the same way everyone has that "friend" who only reaches out when they need something.

"Hey buddy ol' pal, I'm moving next weekend, and I was hoping you could bring your truck"...

This satirical headline from "The Hard Times" could accurately describe the "friendship" between the Netanyahu government and the various other governments that have backed them up in the past.

The strategic location of Israel in the Levant has been uniquely advantageous for the US and other allies. Their status as “special relationship” to the US reflects that. That has tremendous value.

That rationale may have played a few years back...but as it currently stands, we have other allies in the region.

Jordan, Oman, Bahrain, and UAE are all strategic allies in the region, and check of a lot of the same boxes as Israel.

Bilateral weapons trade and general trade - check
Adversarial towards Iran - check
Coalition efforts against ISIS - check
Access agreements for military bases - check

Are there any tangible/compelling reasons (outside of the "Judeo-Christian" link) that you can name that provides a tangible reason for why we need to do their bidding and give them billions in direct cash transfers and support that we couldn't facilitate with one of our other allies in the region?

But Netanyahu went to school at Massachusets Institute of Technology, and also spent some time at MIT, and his father's last name was Benzion Mileikowsky, so he's Polish.

...So, he's a Westerner.

I think every Western nation should be willing to defend and protect other Western Nations, simply because we hold the same values. That's enough reason, IMO.

The reason is our historical alliance. Neither one of the nations that you mentioned have the special relationship, intelligence sharing, and loyalty that the US has with Israel.

In other words, we went to a lot of trouble to impose a western-oriented secular state populated with European immigrants in the Levant and we shouldn't give up on it now.

Actually most came from Eastern Europe and other Arab countries.

No not at all. It's our cousins being attacked, who were treated badly when they returned to the land of their ancestors. Instead of being welcomed and respected during their time of need, they were treated badly by racists who didn't like them because they looked too European upon their return.

...It's always been the Ashkenazi Jews who have been hated the most by the Palestinians. Because racism against Europeans is real, even if some people refuse to accept it.

Still more or less European--it's the "values" that count, don't you know. Anyway, Western Europe had mostly gotten rid of theirs already
and other Arab countries.
The Mizrahi--still considered second class citizens

It might not have been so bad if they'd stayed home.

Well, the Holocaust played a significant role in the Ashkenazi migration wave to Israel. Many of whom were victims. But even they were not welcomed.

I might be offended if someone said that about my people. Wouldn't you? I mean...That's very insulting.

Who are they?
Well, my grandma spoke fluent slovak, and she lived in a Slovak neighborhood, and frequented the "Slovak Club"... Not kidding. And my dad went to a Catholic school whith predominantly Slovak kids who were all from the same neighborhood.

Sooooo.... If you were to suggest that Western Europe "got rid of all their Slovaks a long time ago" I would feel uncomfortable hearing that. I can imagine Jews would feel similarly.

But I'm also half English on my mom's side. You asked, I answered.
