Unless these documents were hand-written, then they were created and printed from a computer; and if they were produced on a computer, then they were waaaaay-more-than-likely retained on a server somewhere because of rules regarding document retention. And if they’re retained on a server, then all the burn bags are for is the destruction of the hard copies, which is an entirely normal process for any organization that has hard copies of sensitive documents floating around.

Pictured a server, actually a series of servers that contain terabytes of terabytes of information all encrypted files all different locations. Tell me how you’re gonna find 100 documents within that system?

It’s not like going into your system and setting up saying pull all my word files that have to do with Russian collusion.

It would be like covering the city of New York City 2 feet deep in quarters and telling someone go out and find the right quarter but we’re not gonna tell you what year it is.

When I worked as a lowly grunt at Big Defense Contractor, every office had at least one (often multiple) full-sized trash cans, padlocked shut with a mail slot in the top, for disposing of these sensitive documents. Every so often, Iron Mountain would come through and collect them to be destroyed. I assumed they were shredded, but I suppose it’s possible they were burned.
