With the Trump administration having “effectively achieved control of the border,” Miami Archbishop Thomas Wenski is now urging the president and Congress to turn to expanding legal pathways for unlawfully present migrants who have committed no other crimes to obtain citizenship.

In a statement and interview with archdiocesan media, Wenski argued that the U.S. “faces labor shortages in many industries, including health care, service, and agriculture. Removing immigrant workers will only exacerbate these shortages.”

“Rather than spending billions to deport people who are already contributing positively to our nation’s well-being, it would be more financially sensible and more morally acceptable for Congress, working with the administration, to expand legal pathways for noncriminal migrants to adjust to a permanent legal status,” Wenski affirmed.

In an interview with La Voz Catolica, Wenski said that “what makes it cruel right now is the arbitrariness of this push to deport people who have already made a stake here — people who have put in sweat and effort to stay.”

"As the new detention center at Dade-Collier Airport, also known as “Alligator Alcatraz,” becomes operational, it seems necessary to take stock of recent developments in immigration enforcement and reiterate the need for more than enforcement-only measures.

"It is alarming to see enforcement tactics that treat all irregular immigrants as dangerous criminals. Masked, heavily armed agents who do not identify themselves during enforcement activities are surprising - so is the apparent lack of due process in deportation proceedings in recent months.

"Along these lines, much of the current rhetoric is obviously intentionally provocative. It is unbecoming of public officials and corrosive of the common good to speak of the deterrence value of “alligators and pythons” at the Collier-Dade facility. Common decency requires that we remember the individuals being detained are fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters of distressed relatives. "

"Common decency" is no longer common. In fact it has become rare.

Decency is among other rarities in the world today. Where was common sense in the insane "open borders" of the so-called Biden administration - such insanity being the immediate cause of a real crisis: an infiltration of armies of enemies among the hordes of desperate seekers of good crossing into this country? Common sense is as expendable as truth, as honor, as patriotism, as every virtue, for the overriding ideological lust of the progressive/socialist/communist servants of the evil one: power. They lust for power at any cost to others; they have no human concern for any others. Their tactic is simple: lie and keep repeating the lie. It will take root among many.

Satan's workers have climbed over and under the walls of the Church, the sheepfold, wolves in sheep's clothing, as Jesus warned us in many, many parables, for example:
"Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.
Jhn 10:8 All who came before me are thieves and robbers; but the sheep did not heed them.
Jhn 10:9 I am the door; if any one enters by me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.
Jhn 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
Jhn 10:11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
Jhn 10:12 He who is a hireling and not a shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf snatches them and scatters them.
Jhn 10:13 He flees because he is a hireling and cares nothing for the sheep.
Jhn 10:14 I am the good shepherd; I know my own and my own know me,
Jhn 10:15 as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.
Jhn 10:16 And I have other sheep, that are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will heed my voice. So there shall be one flock, one shepherd.
Jhn 10:17 For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life, that I may take it again.
Jhn 10:18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again; this charge I have received from my Father."
Jhn 10:19 There was again a division among the Jews because of these words.
Thus He said, "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves." (Mt 7:15)

What is often overlooked is that illegal immigrants are law breakers that undermine the integrity of legal immigration

If I take my kids with me to rob a bank, does that make the robbery ok? Don’t think so

It is not indiscriminate enforcement. I believe that it is very generous of the Trump administration to offer the option to self deport with a free plane ticket and 1000 dollars.
They then can get back in line and apply to legally immigrate. If they have been here a while then they are more likely to get a sponsor to expedite their legal immigration, if they so choose. Continue to scoff the law, then risk deportation is how it should be and by the grace of God now is.

I am for expansion of legal immigration to higher levels than are currently allowed, but law breaking cannot be allowed else the law and the border are meaningless, and when we reward crime, crime all the more increases

The Bishops were previously enriched by federal dollars to assist illegal immigrants, don’t know if DOGE ended that

That must be true in all situations then, No?
Not just immigration but also riots at the capital? We have a convicted felon in the oval office.
Now this cry of "law breaking" sounds hollow.

But I agree. I am a man of rules and laws.

In this era of contradictions everywhere, the left/progressives/socialists/communists find such a "truism" - "true in all situations" - a convenient costume to wear, a useful tool for the advancement of death. Now we find credible reports of atheists among the Curia of the Holy Church, uncertainty about defining a woman, mortal sins paraded about as virtues, and laws weaponized by credentialed lawyers to commit unlawful crimes. The past certainty of a landscape of goods and evils is now asserted to be a new world of shades of grey, all walls replaced by open borders and lockless doors. Satan, who began small, asking Eve rhetorically (I paraphrase) "Did God really say that to you?", has now brought confusion and ambiguity like smoke into the Holy Place itself, civil and religious. Corridors of law - civil and religious - have been infiltrated by servants of the evil one, the lawless one, in whom there is no truth.

There is a safe and sure harbor still, there from the beginning, firm as a rock: the One True God IS. Without Him one can do nothing.
