"We're trying to elevate the real food perception of Lay's. If you think about the simplest and most natural snack, it is a potato chip; it's a potato, it's oil, and it's a little bit of salt—the most simple, no artificial ingredients," said CEO Ramon Laguarta in a call with investors.
The company also said it was expanding use of avocado and olive oil across its brands, rather than the canola or soybean oil it uses. The MAHA movement has questioned the health benefits of certain food oils.

Kudos to Pepsi. C'mon the rest of you companies, get with the MAHA bandwagon.

People, its still chips deep fried in oil.
correct, it's still by no means a "health food" by any stretch.

But like I've noted in the past when comparing the US foods to their UK/European counterparts... "less terrible" junk food is at least a decent step in the right direction.

If a person is going to insist on eating chips and orange Fanta every night while doing something sedentary like playing video games, I'd rather have that unhealthy habit only come at the cost of 700 calories as opposed to 1400 calories + artificial junk

Orange Fanta: This iconic citrus soda is universally popular, with a number of flavors across the world, including peach, lemon, mango and berry. But it's orange flavor remains its most famous and sought-after when you're looking for a refreshing drink.

For those who drink it in the US, they might be surprised to find a 2 liter bottle has an astonishing 580 more calories than the same bottle in the UK.
-------------
There are 672 calories per 100g of Doritos in the US, whereas there's around 500 calories of crisps in 100g of Doritos in the UK.
-------------
Whether you dollop it in one corner of your plate or put it all over your fries, ketchup makes so many things taste better and has saved many burnt fries or bland hot dogs.

If you're in the US, you're likely to consume 20% more calories per serving than in the UK despite the average bottle of ketchup being somewhat smaller in the US – 567g compared to the UK's 700g.

Im skeptical that anyones cutting calories in half for the same size servings in a way that appeals to our garbage food connoisseur gaming friends.

Thats a pretty colossal serving size. So Im not so surprised.

Incrementally better is better of course. But watch for them to lie about this garbage being "healthy" now.

...a bit off topic, but I recently learned of Fanta's beginnings....in Nazi Germany to circumvent a U.S. trade embargo that included Coca Cola. The haunting history of Fanta.

This alerts me to something weird.

You sort of imply that food could fit one of two categories: a. garbage food and b. "health food"

What about just normal "food" that isnt super refined and packed with addictive levels of fats and sugars? Calling it "health food" implies that its off in its own section where the hippies or athletes shop.

Is baked chips more acceptable and healthy?
I would guess its somewhat better?

Still seems like its in that metabolic junk zone of foods American like to eat all the time.

I can get unbearably scoldy on the Americans on this topic.

You mean like Michelle Obama tried to do. And Trump supporters were against it. BTW , in California , company's have been providing healthy food, drinks and snacks. I'm glad Trump supporters are starting to care about healthy eating. Even healthy food cost more. So, maybe Trump and non Trump supporters can spend more money for healthy eating for the poor.

Rs always seem to be 20 years late to the party. They ridiculed govt involvement in healthy eating..... and now its yay maha RFK!

Or like with Iraq war war war!...... and now the tune is no "forever wars"! Seriously they could have stopped that one back then if theyd have turned off the Fox and opened their eyes.

Lesson learned? Probably not.

I kind of break it out into two categories.

When I say "health food", I'm referring to whole foods/single ingredient foods/things one may expect us to eat if we were living in nature...stuff that actually satisfies a vitamin/mineral requirement -- stuff like that

Everything else would be in the "other" category...and the foods in that "other" category exist on a spectrum of "Little bit bad for you" <-> "Very bad for you"

And "processed" isn't always necessarily the dividing line. Lentil pasta, Greek yogurt, peanut butter, and granola bars are technically processed foods, but they're unlikely to be catastrophic to one's health in the same way that eating McDonalds and frozen pizzas would be.

Actually, you'd be surprised at how similar some of them taste with far fewer calories.

There's a store nearby that specializes in both those complex board games, and also imported snacks/candies/etc from all over the world.
(because if you're familiar with that target demographic, they're into trying out imported stuff)

I've actually tried some of them out just out of curiosity, and unless one was doing a side by side taste test at the same moment, most wouldn't notice or be bothered.

In trying out the imported versions of Lay's chips, fewer calories, a shorter ingredient list on the back, and relatively the same taste (unless you get those weird kind that are squid flavored from Japan)

Big differences in the cereals as well.

At lot of the stuff they're adding in is with the claim that it'll be more "shelf stable" and "will keep for longer", but that's really sort of a non-feature for most of those types foods. If people are buying snacks, they're planning on eating the snacks soon. Whether it'll keep until 3 years from now instead of 3 months from now is pretty irrelevant for things that people are planning on eating this weekend. Nobody's browsing the snack aisle today for something they think they'll have a hankering for in 2027.

Baked beet chips are pretty good and somewhat healthy as an alternative to fried potato and fried corn chips - a lot less sodium and quite pretty to boot! Nuts and pepitas in moderation (well, that's the key, ain't it) are also better substitutions.

....and "REAL Cane Sugar" in Coke. [I suppose it's "better" than corn syrup.]
Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump)
@realDonaldTrump

I have been speaking to Coca-Cola about using REAL Cane Sugar in Coke in the United States, and they have agreed to do so. I’d like to thank all of those in authority at Coca-Cola. This will be a very good move by them — You’ll see. It’s just better

_________

  • The company later issued a statement that did not confirm it was switching its entire Coke product line to cane sugar from high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), saying only it would have "more details on new innovative offerings" soon.
Corn growers in Iowa may have some thoughts about that....

Well God gave humanity healthy food, but corporations and their scientist have seen to it that the sin side of people crave after the junk that has been created and sold to them.

Your health in in your stomach, just be sure your food is good medicine.
