James 5:11
As you know, we count as blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job's perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

Does suffering ever end, like what God brought about for Job, in the land of the living, emotionally as well as in life, or do we just suffer all our lives until we get to heaven? Does anyone have experience?

The story of the Rich man and Lazarus plays out every day. God Loved the rich man and provided him with the very best opportunity at his door to experience Godly type Love and Lazarus went to the grave providing that opportunity.

Could you please rephrase that? Not necessarily disagreeing, just unsure exactly what it is you are pointing out.

Like Lazarus, we might spend our whole life trying to help others (the rich man in Lazarus' case) and go to our grave, only to be rewarded in heaven.

Just look at David's trials and also his victories. Here is his answer which to many applies today as well.

PSALM 34:17
The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears;
He delivers them from all their troubles.
18The LORD is near to the brokenhearted;

He saves the contrite in spirit.
19Many are the afflictions of the righteous,
but the LORD delivers him from them all.

I'm aware of Job's perseverance, and I've never been impressed with the ending of this fictional story. What we have is an omnipotent God trumpeting His almighty power to a desperately ill man dressed in sackcloth and sitting in an ash heap. Only when God's said His spiel does He finally relent and bring about restoration for Job. To quote Carl Jung's caustic comment which could be applied to this episode "Is it worth the lion's while to terrify the mouse?"

The rest reads like a fairy tale - Job gets everything back double, and they all lived happily ever after.

Ask the victims of the Holocaust or the women caught up in sex trafficking if they felt or feel like that. Does almighty God speak out of the thunder cloud and bring justice?

He might in the long run, in the next life, but quite often in this life justice is not done and God does not bring good out of evil.

In the end the only recourse some people have is faith.

Job is not presented as a fictional story.

Apparently some scribe sat down with a very sick man in an ash heap, while three other windbags talked for days, and scribbled it all down on potsherd in poetic form, totalling nearly 40 pages in modern typewritten text, while having advance notice God was going to speak out of a thunderstorm, plus having first hand personal testimony of Satan's challenge with God.

I'll stick with poetic fiction.

It was an attempt to explain unjustified suffering, using brilliant poetic imagery, but there's no way that I'd think for a minute it was an eye-witness account.

I'll stick with the way it is presented. . .as fact.
