I don’t think he means that the baptism was symbolic, meaning it wasn’t really a baptism, but that baptism has a symbolic meaning. Your baptism is symbolic of dying Christ’s death and rising to new life.
And Rom 6:3 says , Were Baptized is a verb , in the Passive Voice , which. means , it is Christ doing the Placing into his
death and not symbolic is whah I see. .

It’s symbolic because you didn’t die.

And a verse that says , we are symbolically Baptized ??

Are you baptized with water , OR not with Water ?

And what about 1 Cor 10:2 says , And all were Baptized together unto to Moses In the Cloud and in the Sea !!

So wee they Baptized unto Moses ?

And Baptized in the Cloud ??

And How were they Baptized in the Sea , where there was Plenty of WATER / HYDOR ?

dan p
lol

did moses baptize all the people in water?

Yes. they were placed into union with Moses as the head. the cloud and the Sea were what they had in common.

Try to study Ancient Greek literature. and see how the word baptizo was used.

You will see it is not as it is tought in churches today

Early in 1 Corinthians 15, Paul is teaching the saints about resurrection, about new life. In verse 29, Paul is speaking to the new saints, most who came to Christianity from pagan religions, and they wanted to bring some of the pagan rituals with them, baptism for the dead being one of them. Paul was explaining that the pagans didn’t believe in a resurrection, so was pointing out the frivolousness of having a ritual like baptism for the dead if they don’t resurrect. Paul is asking, What’s the point?

So Paul was speaking about a ritual in some of the pagan religions, not about something that was practiced by Christianity.

That has nothing to do with baptism for the dead.

Baptism by immersion is a symbolic ordinance because you are lowered into a "watery grave", symbolic of Christ's death, and rise to new life in Christ, similar to His rising to new life when he resurrected.

And Rom 6:5 says , For since we have become united together. in the likeness of his death in the likeness of his death. , yet
we will be also. of the resurrection !
Which to means if you are NOT Baptized into His Dead you will not be Resurrected , as 1 Cor 15:29 reads !
And since it says Baptized for the Dead can be Water Baptism , as the Greek word Water / Hydro is not in
the Greek Text you can not be Resurrected. !!

I am just telling you the historical context behind the scripture involving baptism for the dead (1 Cor. 15:29) That particular scripture has nothing to do with Romans 6:5.
