'K.I.L.L. him': Group of 5th-grade girls plotted to murder boy who 'cheated' by luring him into bathroom and planting fake suicide note

The shocking plan to stab their fellow student to death was concocted during lunch and recess in October 2024, according to police.

The killing would have taken place at the Legacy Traditional School's West Surprise campus in Surprise — a large city in Maricopa County and part of the broader Phoenix metro area. The girls in question ranged from 10 to 11 years old, according to the Surprise Police Department.

The video is short in case you don’t want to read the article. Given the seriousness of the crime how should they be punished in your opinion?

Goodness, that's horrible. The fourth one who smiled while being interrogated definitely needs time away, hopefully with some kind of rehabilitation plan in place (I have no idea how that works). Suicide by stabbing? That sounds like a 5th grade plan.

I heard about it earlier and it’s very disturbing. The plan was foiled because other students overheard it or they might have been successful. I feel they all should be punished. Remorse doesn’t minimize the fact they were willing to kill someone. A slap on the wrist would be insulting. If I were in the parents shoes I’d push for criminal and civil charges. Their son will need therapy too.

Do you think any of them would not go to juvenile? I am assuming they all will, but maybe not?

It depends on the judge and prosecutor. They may want to be lenient because of their age. That’s why the parents will have to be vigilant. If you look at the school you can tell it’s a nice area and the argument that will follow. They’re good kids who fell into the wrong company or bad influences from social media and the internet or the mental health angle. It happens.

I see what you mean. They could argue the fourth girl is the problem and not their child. That is super young, but they all need some kind of help.

A wise attorney would advise them to do so and testify against her. That’s why I mentioned the civil suit as well. He’ll need a lot of counseling about the event and how it will affect his opinion about women later on. He may have difficulty trusting or could become overly assertive in response. There’s too many unknowns and it could take years to combat.

And bear in mind they’re girls. If the perpetrators were male it would have gotten more attention.

Hmm. I'd consider checking if any of the involved have developed ASPD or are psychopaths, they seem to check off at least some of the signs of those conditions.

Their parents were pretty obviously not brought up right.

But the relativism of right and wrong has been a problem for so long, it's hard to tell how far back this goes. Lately, of course, it's not just that, but the ease of and callousness toward violence, not to mention the promotion of egocentrism and self-affirmation as of premium importance.

It's tragic, how fragmented modern morality and innocence has become. We demand prohibition of any potential harm to children, yet the parents' every fight is considered normal, and to some, beneficial for the kids to learn 'honesty of expression' and other things, even in Christian circles. Self-control is either not taught, or is centered around self-promotion. Tenderness of heart, and kindness, and mutual respect, is centered on politically correct focuses and not engendered as a life attitude. God has been discarded, and that, sadly, even among "Christians". And we call this, "love".

And that —God being discarded— is not at all a separate issue: Ironically, the understanding of just who/what God is, has been so corrupted in Christendom, that he is no longer feared, but is taught as existing for the sake of humanity, stands in stark contrast to the whole of Scripture. The UNTAME, self-existent, unyielding, omnipotent First Cause, from whom all else descends and upon whom all else depends, whose purity will burn away all corruption, is taught as a kindly, undirected force of no particular intent, who means equally well toward every individual. Well, THAT is not God.

Some blame gentle parenting or the desire to be friends or new ideas. But the root of it is a lack of guidance, discipline and accountability.

It's tragic, how fragmented modern morality and innocence has become.

There was a girl who went to school with my daughter and attended a class with her for enrichment. It was a few blocks from our home and I went to pick her up on foot. The little girl was there and I said hello and she returned the greeting and said goodbye to my daughter and walked off alone.

I called out in shock and asked where she was going and she said she’s taking the bus and I was horrified. It was 6pm on the busiest street in the city and she was in 3rd or 4th grade. I told her to wait and we escorted her to the bus stop and waited for her to board the bus.

My daughter explained that she went home on her own all the time. She didn’t look well kept but I didn’t mention it and we went home. One evening we were in the store and I bumped into the little girl with her mother. She looked the same but her mother was well dressed and the difference was jarring.

I was honestly upset and we had a conversation later on about good parents and neglect. She confirmed my suspicions and shared some incidents from school and we had a discussion on associations and how I wanted her to handle it. The level of inattention was bothersome. The bus stop was 4 1/2 blocks from the facility and the streets were packed. It was not the place for a child that age who was unescorted. And I knew something was off with the mother that would rear its head eventually.

Self-control is either not taught, or is centered around self-promotion. Tenderness of heart, and kindness, and mutual respect, is centered on politically correct focuses and not engendered as a life attitude.

You don’t hear that word too often these days. But whenever I contemplate connections this is one of the qualities I look for and the same holds true for the things I watch (that I learn from). I don’t listen to enablers or who people who minimize accountability. I’ve seen the fallout of that line of thinking and it’s bleak. You don’t hear discipline very much either and I hold it in equal esteem.

The UNTAME, self-existent, unyielding, omnipotent First Cause, from whom all else descends and upon whom all else depends, whose purity will burn away all corruption, is taught as a kindly, undirected force of no particular intent, who means equally well toward every individual. Well, THAT is not God.

There’s always a remnant no matter the darkness and that’s what we have to keep in mind. Many are blind including believers and we’ve never needed discernment more than we do today. I don’t focus on what’s amiss. I look for new avenues for light and service. We have to focus on the kingdom and the work He’s called us to perform. Every problem has its resolution in Him and we must entrust the unpleasant parts to His keeping and stay the course.
