OK, before people get outraged, I have to explain a bit of Minnesota law.
He is initially being charged for second degree murder and lesser charges. Not first degree murder. This is because Minnesota requires a grand jury to indict for first degree murder. A grand jury will be empaneled and presented with the evidence to decide whether to hand up the indictment. This will take some time.
