OK, before people get outraged, I have to explain a bit of Minnesota law.

He is initially being charged for second degree murder and lesser charges. Not first degree murder. This is because Minnesota requires a grand jury to indict for first degree murder. A grand jury will be empaneled and presented with the evidence to decide whether to hand up the indictment. This will take some time.

Local news is reading the probable cause statement.

It states that someone called the police stating that someone had shot "their parents". This means the caller was Hope Hoffman, the disabled (spina bifida) adult daughter of John and Yvette Hoffman. Her cousin reported earlier that Yvette had shielded Hope with her body as she was being shot.

His friend says he was not extreme, so I guess you must think about half the country is far right. (And I wouldn't be surprised if you think that.) Personally, I don't think every liberal, non-Christian who supported Kamala Harris is far left. So I'm still waiting.

Yes. From what I can tell, he's a pretty typical kinda right Charismatic Evangelical. Lots of them around. Not as many as there used to be (look at the posting frequency on this very website over the years). Very, very few of them try to go on an assassination spree.

My hunch is that something happened in his personal life that pushed him over the edge. Something that was huge to him but doesn't fit the narrative either "side" is trying to push. The people looking to slot him into their narratives won't stop trying, of course.

Between the two shootings, the suspect went in his fake cop car to two other state legislators homes. One was not home, at the second, police also showed up while he was in his car with the lights on, but he left before back-up officers showed up.

Well it's a good thing we live in a country where police have to be easily identified in marked vehicles, and identify themselves as police (with proof) while performing their jobs. If we had random people jumping out at citizens and detaining them with all-black attire and nothing to distinguish themselves as officers, this could lead to confusing situations.

Vance Boelter, the man suspected of killing one Minnesota lawmaker and her husband and wounding another and his wife, had “voluminous” writings that included the names of other officials and lawmakers.

“It’s pretty clear from the evidence that he’s been planning these attacks for quite some time,” said acting US Attorney Joseph Thompson at a Monday news conference.

“Boelter planned his attack carefully,” Thompson said at a Monday news conference. “He researched his victims and their families. He used the Internet and other tools to find their addresses and names, the names of the family members. He conducted surveillance of their homes and took notes about the location of their homes.”

We get it. It's uncomfortable to hear somebody with your same political ethos would assassinate people. Nobody is saying it's all far right people, but they're saying it's this far right person. No need to get offended or snarky about it.
