I think it’s relatively obvious the guy was mentally ill. A person doesn’t do what he did when they’re mentally regulated. However, his dis-regulation will not change much of the conversation. It’s a reason for what happened, not an excuse, and it makes his susceptibility to the rigamarole being churned out there more pitiable, but it doesn’t make him the victim in this story.

Maybe it means we point the light at the sources that lean into and ramp up the incendiary, all-or-nothing, “they who disagree are now my sworn enemy” mentality, but this thread has shown… Not much will come at it.
