Never the in the history of our country has a US Senator been forced to te ground and handcuffed.

Stop pretending this is normal.
Someone being forced to the ground to be handcuffed because they're resisting and being competitive is very normal. A US Senator acting that way and putting himself in that situation is unusual. I have seen a State Senator (Regina Goodwin) placed in handcuffs because of bad behavior.

And yet, when Republicans heckled Presidents Obama and Biden during their State of the Union messages, they got a pass and are applauded in many circles.

We have lost any sense of decorum inside Capitol Hill. God, help us all.

What were you watching? He came in ready to ask a question and was aggressively detained, removed and thrown down to the floor for no reason.

Maybe that’s normal to you in this police state you’ve apparently voted for but that’s not normal to me. I’ve never seen anything like this.
I've binge watched police bodycam videos for years.

I didn't see anything out of the ordinary happening in this situation. I don't think the officers knew who he was, so they weren't going after him because of who he was. Him saying he was a senator didn't matter to them because people being detained make all kinds of claims about themselves.

Another scenario is this was a set up. These officers were instructed to arrest Senator Padilla the minute he started asking questions. So the question is who gave the orders?

Again, this was at the federal building that is currently surrounded by national guard and police up the wazoo. The Senator wouldn’t be in the building at all if he were any kind of threat to anyone there. I know you guys aren’t dumb enough to actually believe this lame excuse from DHS that Sen Padilla was posing any kind of threat to Secretary Noem so why do you insist?
His office is in the building.

Another note for the non-Angelenos, because it may help dispel confusion.

This event took place at the Wilshire Federal Building in Westwood/West LA, far away from the Roybal Federal Building in downtown Los Angeles (near where the recent excitement has taken place).

If this was some random dude in off the street trying to disrupt things and ask questions about relevant matters then I'd expect some security to ask him to please keep quiet - or else please leave. If the guy says 'Hey, I actually work here, I'm a Senator' then at the very least he should have been able to confirm his ID and then the only recourse would have been 'Hey, it's your building - feel free'.

I think the worst anyone could then say is that he was being rude in interrupting. Versus his being entitled, as an elected official that has some responsibility for the citizens in the area, to ask any questions he wanted answered.

If the former, then there may be questions we could ask about other examples of people being interrupted while carrying out their official duties to make sure there's no hypocrisy in those making the claim.

Unfortunately people lie, say all kinds of things. For example, as a security guard it was my job to make sure the cheerleaders for an NFL team got safely on the bus, and no way was I going to take the word of people and let them get close.
He’s not Alex Padilla?
I’m fairly certain that he wasn’t lying.

As I've said so many times, and this goes for everyone, when dealing with law enforcement don't disobey commands or resist. Here they start to bring him out and he pushes his way forward. If you think law enforcement acted improperly then file a complaint later on. Republican leaders have been constantly under threat of violence during this administration and do have security. Democrat leaders at this time should be talking to their base and telling them violence is not the way.
The personal and political vendetta between Newsom and Trump has escalated to this point of frustration. Padilla described as an inability to get a meeting or receive answers from the Department of Homeland Security regarding its immigration enforcement operations in California. He indicated that he attended the press conference because he was seeking information and answers that he had not been able to obtain through other channels. Thankfully, they did finally have a meeting after the press conference.

If he had just raised his hand and said "I'm California Senator Alex Padilla and I'd like to ask a question". Probably the whole room would've gone quiet and all eyes would have turned to him, and he would have proceded with his questions.

Instead he was just someone in the crowd who blurted out interrupting Noem and sounding agitated. He behaved juTo get the real story about what's happening in LA, listen to Jimmy Kimmel's monologuest like the aggressive protestors who show up at political events and have to be hauled off.

Noem knew who he was.

Of course she knew. Senator Padilla is a ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship, and Border Safety.

When she saw the federal agents react, she should have called them off and addressed the Senator. She could have asked him to leave. Or she could have taken the queston from the Senator whose subcommittee has oversight for the very function she was there overseeing (in the Senators home state no less). She chose to ignore him and continue on with her prepared remarks.

How do you know he didn't? It's not like the cameras were pointed at the room, so we can't see what happened in the leadup to the altercation that was filmed. Noem does visibly react to something (pauses mid-sentence, glances around) a few seconds before the sound of scuffling is heard, but it's not clear what that was.

There wasn't a "crowd." There were maybe 20-30 people in the room aside from Noem and her entourage, all of them reporters/videographers - it wasn't a public press conference. Also, Noem, not Bondi.

Those details don't matter. It was disrep[ect shown to a member of the Trump administration. Lock 'im up!

I note even the rightwing Gateway Pundit characterizes the senator's crime as 'heckling'.

If he had announced himself and waited a couple of seconds he would have gotten everyone's attention, including the camera operator. There's more than enough footage of press conferences to show that's what happens.

It was a crowded room. If it was all reporters and camer operators, then he probably barged in unannounced and caught everyone off guard. Yes, Noem, my mistake.

Are there any pictures or footage of Noem and Padilla together previously, showing that she knows him?

Noem know who he was.
It was foolish of him to rush someone who has had death threats against her and is protected by the Secret Service.

My point was that law enforcement doesn't freeze the second someone makes a claim because there are people out there who will lie. There primary goal here was to secure the situation, to make everyone safe. You can talk it out later.

Of course there is the possibility that the FBI agents were fully aware that he was US Senator Alex Padilla, and decided to dog pile him anyways. That doesn't seem too likely, but who knows. Or someone told them to tackle the Senator if he showed up. But who and why remains to be discovered.
