That's basically what I was saying before, so I'm not sure why you had a problem with it.Evil people that have murdered Jews love it when any group chants "Free Palestine"
Evil people that are planning to murder more Jews love it when any group chants "Free Palestine"
"Hey! I'm on your team!", is not exactly a dog whistle.Right, it's supposed to be a message that doesn't look like a message. But 'Free Palestine' is an obvious message, so it is not a dog whistle
I clearly do not have a problem with it.That's basically what I was saying before, so I'm not sure why you had a problem with it.
"Hey! I'm on your team!", is not exactly a dog whistle.
Whose team depends on who's saying it.On the terrorist’s team? Because Hamas wants Palestine to be free too.
"Save the children" and, alternately, "Think of the children!!" have indeed been used as dog whistles, particularly against the LGBT+ folk.“Save the children” is basically saying “Hey! I’m on the children’s side”. It’s not exactly a dog whistle, yet it was called one by those on the left.
For being Jewish or for being part of the Israeli government? Neither is acceptable, of course, but the message is different.Chanting "Free Palestine!" after murdering 2 people for being Jewish certainly taints the message.
Isn't stoning the proper, Biblical method of executing gay people and those who work on the Sabbath? Matthew Shephard's murder did help get some "normal Christians" woke enough to get laws changed. If a Christian walked into a gay bar and shot 2 people for being gay and then chanted, "Jesus is Lord" as he was being arrested, don't you think that would make normal Christians want to speak out and disavow themselves from such behavior?
I believe the violence fostered by the Proud Boys and Patriot Prayer Warriors and, on the other side, Antifa did taint the BLM movement.Same goes for someone who lights fire to a police precinct after barricading the doors to make sure no one escaped the flames, and then declared "Black Lives Matter!" as he was being arrested.
I agree but too many people don't - see all those who laud the Gazan genocide as just.Committing a violent act and then using that act to promote an idea hardly does any favors to whatever they're promoting.
...disassociates the act from the idea. The violent act reflects on the person committing it. Not on the idea.Committing a violent act and then using that act to promote an idea...
To disavow the behaviour? Yes. But to disassociate themselves from their belief that Jesus is Lord? Not in the slightest. If a Christian walked into a gay bar and shot 2 people for being gay and then chanted, "Jesus is Lord" as he was being arrested, don't you think that would make normal Christians want to speak out and disavow themselves from such behavior?

How do you know it was a dog whistle agains the LGBT+ instead of wanting to save children from sex trafficking?"Save the children" and, alternately, "Think of the children!!" have indeed been used as dog whistles, particularly against the LGBT+ folk.

That's how communication works. Why does it depend on who’s saying it?
Sure, and?Anyone can hold hidden antisemitism.
By looking at the actions behind the words. How do you know it was a dog whistle agains the LGBT+ instead of wanting to save children from sex trafficking?
Too bad there are plenty of people who actually condone the murders of Jewish citizens, and even celebrate it because it helps to shed light on the issue being chanted about, whether it be undesired actions by health insurance CEO's, or even a man and woman who were Jewish and got in the way of the bullets fired by a guy who just wanted to yell "free palestine" to make it count for something. To disavow the behaviour? Yes. But to disassociate themselves from their belief that Jesus is Lord? Not in the slightest.
You've introduced too much whataboutism there to take each point seriously. For being Jewish or for being part of the Israeli government? Neither is acceptable, of course, but the message is different.

Uh-huh. Each point was seriously proffered in reply to other points raised; your flippant dismissal all en masse is not unexpected. If you can't answer any point, just insult the person - then refuse to answer any point. Bravo! You've introduced too much whataboutism there to take each point seriously.
That's nice, an accusation that isn't quite an accusation. I see this all the time from those without the courage of their "convictions".I see this all the time from those who seem to find some sort of justification for violence, even while claiming it's "unacceptable".
I think you just ignored what I said.Too bad there are plenty of people who actually condone the murders of Jewish citizens, and even celebrate it because it helps to shed light on the issue being chanted about, whether it be undesired actions by health insurance CEO's, or even a man and woman who were Jewish and got in the way of the bullets fired by a guy who just wanted to yell "free palestine" to make it count for something.
Their "identity"? I misunderstood your question on whether that is meant as a dog whistle or not. If not, then what one speaker means by a phrase can differ significantly from what a different speaker means. This is not a sidestep, but, again, how communication works. This sidesteps explaining why the speaker’s identity matters.
Yes, and?And they could be dog-whistling.
Yes, this is the subject of the thread although what I was immediately replying to was concerning "Think of the children!!!" Other people who have uttered the same phrase, "Free Palestine!", have not and would not either do that or celebrate that.A man shouted “free Palestine” after he killed two Israeli embassy staff.
I believe I gave it the proper amount of attention.I think you just ignored what I said.
Plenty of people have celebrated the murder of these 2 innocents--sometimes openly, and other times by attempting to use it as an opportunity to push their "cause". Same as when Oct. 7th happened. It was like a rallying cry to the students of the "elite" collages. However, I've never seen anyone do a mass shooting at a school while proclaiming, "Think of the children!!!", and then have admirers of the school shooter use it as a way to push a pro-life cause.Yes, this is the subject of the thread although what I was immediately replying to was concerning "Think of the children!!!"
