Maybe we need REALLYREAL ID?

Authorities wrestled a US-born citizen to the ground, cuffed him and dismissed his so-called Real ID as “fake” during an arrest operation targeting undocumented people on Wednesday under the direction of the Trump administration, according to a viral video and reporting by Telemundo.

Leonardo Garcia Venegas, 25, was at his construction job in Foley, Alabama, when officials arrived to arrest workers there. Garcia Venegas – who was born in Florida to Mexican parents – began filming the arrests with his mobile phone before officials reportedly knocked the device out of his hand and tried to arrest him as well.

Video of the arrest shows three officials wrestling him to the ground, while he yells: “I’m a citizen!”

According to an interview with the Spanish-language US news outlet Telemundo, officials took out his wallet, removed his ID – which complies with higher federal security standards for state-issued driver’s licenses as well as identification – and told him that it was fake.

Officials removed the cuffs from Garcia Venegas hours later – after he gave them his social security number, verifying his US citizenship.

His cousin, also a US citizen, told Telemundo they both went through the process of acquiring the Real ID, undergoing “the protocols the administration is asking for”.

“I feel sad because, even though we were born here, that doesn’t matter any more,” the cousin said. She added: “To have our skin color has, apparently, become a crime. And it has become a crime deserving of this type of treatment – as if we were real criminals.”

If you don't want to be treated like a criminal, don't carry fake ID, or film the police doing their constitutional duties.

That one was actually pretty good. Do you suppose they stage these things?

What's the big deal. He was let go right? They verified his identity and let him go. When they round up a pack of illegals they dont know who all they have, because they are illegals. They did their due diligence and released him. Just like they should have.

Ah, but the real dramatic touch was calling his ID fake so they could cuff him. That shows real flair.

Yeah? What's the big deal? Just because we have the US government violating the rights of US citizens in violation of the 4th amendment even though he had the proper documentation and everything needed that is a small price to pay.

The big deal is this never should of happened and is a continued erosion of the rights and freedoms of US citizens. But I get it. It is a small thing and easy to excuse. After all, it didn't cause you any inconvenience at all.

And it's working. Are not many of us just a little more afraid of our rights being denied, perhaps even violently, unless we toe the Trump line? Arresting that Congresswoman and indicting her for felony assault, that was a real coup. Let's see Congress try to investigate anything real, huh?

I ask again, are these things being staged?

Unbelievable.

What’s the big deal with an American being detained and deprived of their rights until they can prove their identity and citizenship?

Are you being freaking for real???

Comments like yours are exactly why people fear we are headed for some much darker times under this president. Because no matter what he does, you’ll just excuse it somehow.

Did they do their due diligence before or after the footage went internationally viral?

What would've happened if it hadn't gone viral?

Given the lack of due process seen in other examples can you prove that you're a US citizen when ICE officers can declare your genuine documents are fake and potentially the next opportunity is after you've been transferred to El Gulag, if then?

Staged by whom? ICE?
Do you remember that Trump, way back in his first campaign, was talking about how criminals should be handled in cases like this? He was suggesting that it was OK to rough up the perps, teach them a lesson? He alowed that it would be a good thing, for instance, if the perp got a good crack on the head from the door frame as he was muscled into the police car. He was criticized for at the time and then the whole thing was forgotten. But we see it again in the rules of engagement of ICE, who were always a little prone to that kind of thing, anyway, Masks and hoodies??? Give me a break.

So, basically people that are working. Was arrested. And one guy was legally here. And his phone knocked to the ground. I hope he's able to sue. As for the other people, they were working, making a living. I thought Trump was going after the so-called violent gang criminals. Of course , I knew that was not true. I'm sure they are working at a job, that most Americans won't do. I talk to Trump supporters about the illegals doing jobs, that wouldn't do. And how the price will get higher for produce and other things. If illegals don't do the work. They say so. I believe they have no idea what they are talking about. I read that , when these illegals are arrested and deported. Americans aren't replacing these jobs.

The police need to handcuff dangerous citizens, take them down, and give a few well placed kicks in order to ensure their safety. Why do you hate law and order?
