  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I believe that ALL who ever lived will be in God’s Kingdom

Gehenna was not about any kind of eternal torture, though.

Gehenna was a valley, a burning garbage dump outside Jerusalem, where dead animals and criminals' corpses were burned continuously.

It was the fire and the "worm" (decay) that was continuous. Not some suffering. Nobody suffered there.
Mk 9:47-48:
"It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into Gehenna where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched."

So you think Jesus was warning them about staying out of the garbage dump?

But apparently He doesn't mind having them tortured for all eternity if they don't. That's Unconditional Love in action right there, innit?
The doctrine of forever punishment truly is ridiculous, yet it's the doctrine of all mainstream Christian denominations. In fact, this sub-forum is the only place on this forum where we can share God's truth that Jesus will save ALL beings.

It's "unfortunate" that you find Jesus' words "ridiculous."

Mk 9:47-48:
"It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into Gehenna where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched."

Unless you think he is referring to the garbage dump.

That's a dishonest remark. Why be like that?

Did I misunderstand your comment in post #143:

"The doctrine of forever punishment truly is ridiculous, yet it's the doctrine of all mainstream Christian denominations."

Do you not know that Jesus said:
"It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into Gehenna where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched." (Mk 9:47-48)

Unless you think he is referring to the garbage dump.

I repeat: "It's 'unfortunate' that you find Jesus' words 'ridiculous.' "

Jesus never taught forever punishment. Forever punishment is a "ridiculous", man-made, doctrine. I never quoted something that Jesus said and called it "ridiculous". You're not being honest.

Many people including non Christians who have gone through an NDE ..( near death experience ) all give similar stories of feelings of love and acceptance after leaving their bodies.

They say the love they feel is so overwhelming it's almost beyond explanation , and most of them don't fear death any more.

God is love , and that makes sense to me.

When Jesus looked at Peter and spoke to Satan who was the sinner? And who was not the sinner?

2 parties present. The sinner and the person

Sorry. One person. Peter at that moment was being adversarial to the will of God. The word satan simply means adversary to the Hebrew people.

So, Peter was Satan?

Unlikely conclusion. I'd dare say heretical

Maybe Jesus was speaking figuratively to drive home his point to Peter.
Jesus was talking about His upcoming death and Peter expressed his opinion like 'no, say it isn't so'. He was rebuked because what was to happen was the will of the Father and Peter had in saying there must be another way, was being adversarial to the will of the Father... hence a satan.

Jesus also said " thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.". If He was talking to THE satan, He would not have said the satan savourest the things of men. It is men who savourest the things of THE Satan.

You want understanding of things in Jesus' time, it is best to look to Hebrew meaning, not Gentile centuries later.

So God gets what He wants... except when He doesn't.
His will won't be known until we can talk to Him with hind-sight.
Right. We're back to "Poor God, There's Just Nothing He Can Do."
Those that will be cast into the lake of fire, will end up fulfilling His will that all the rebellious be destroyed.

It does matter - a lot!

Jesus's sacrifice saves ALL people from forever death. However, faith in Jesus and a sincere desire to follow and obey him saves people from a very unpleasant experience in the LOF. Faithful Christians are assured of going straight to Heaven and being transformed into perfection the nice and easy way.
I am glad you realized the two contingencies required for salvation.
Faith, and desire.
1 John 3:3
And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.
"In Him".
The unrighteous are not "in Him".
So their hopes are just a waste of time.
Others are sent to the LOF and at some point they come out of it having been purified and desiring to follow Jesus to the Father. Does it matter? Hell yea!
You opine another "license to sin doctrine".
Here is some good advice...turn from sin now.
Then you can spend the rest of your life doing good for God and neighbor.
Nobody leaves the lake of fire.
