  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Here's a rather interesting story.

A 24 year old visa overstay from Venezuela, somehow managed to get several convincing-looking documents, and fooled not only a court and a foster family, but also a high school here in Ohio.

They were posing as a homeless 16 year old. They even went as far as joining a couple of the sports teams at the high school. And were able to obtain a driver's license and social security card under their bogus identity.

It wasn't until the mother of his child contacted the foster family, that the misdeeds were uncovered

Then on May 14, the Melfreds were contacted by a woman, Evelyn Camacho, who stated that Labrador was "actually a 24-year-old and he was the father of her child," police said. Camacho sent the Melfreds a picture of Labrador's driver's license with a birthdate of March 27, 2001, along with Facebook pictures of her with Labrador and a small child, police said.

The school district also had to report the situation to the Ohio High School Athletic Association. (presumably for liability purposes because if it ever turns up that another student was injured on the field by this person, there's a lawsuit waiting to happen)

US Border Patrol was able to assist in the investigation and fill in the blanks as to who he actually was.

I would hope this one would be an open & shut case with regards to a deportation order.

The first question I thought was, "Is he trans?" Is that wrong?
I don't see any evidence of that in this one, this seems more like a classic case of fraud (on several levels)

With regards to his participation on High School sports teams, this would represent form of unfairness that, one would hope, would be universally agreed upon.

Although, his behaviors were a little odd.

You'd think a 24-year old overstay (looking to lay low), would avoid things like going out of his way to defraud a court and a foster family, and enrolling in a high school for a year and a half and joining 2 of their sports teams in a town that presumably was close enough to where he was living before, that his child's mother was able to spot him and give the heads up to the foster family.

The fact that his child's mother ratted him out leads me to believe that he burnt that bridge, and if he was looking to fly under radar, probably should've gone somewhere further away where those two sets of paths wouldn't cross.

But we are being told by liberals that these immigrants are being vetted before entering the country to ensure they are not criminals and terrorists. So how could it be possible for him to even register for school at all?

He originally was granted a visa, which means he passed the checks, but overstayed it and didn't do the proper paperwork. Nothing so far suggests that he had a criminal record prior to this little year-long stunt.

Per the ABC article and a few others I'm reading about it on, he originally filed in a county family court with a spoofed birth certificate and a story about how he was homeless and was the victim of human trafficking, so the court actually placed him with the foster family, at which point he was able to obtain a social security card and drivers license under the bogus identity, because he then had the court paperwork that indicated everything was "above board"

Once you have the court docs claiming your birth certificate was legit, a social security card, and a state-issued photo ID...enrolling in school was probably just a formality

If I had to venture a guess, local courts probably don't have a well-trained eye for being able to differentiate between a real and bogus birth certificate from Venezuela.

I don't get his motive for posing as a 16 year old. Enrolling in school has no affect on his immigration status.
It gave him a foster family to pay for his home, food and various other things

If one is a swindler, perhaps I can see the "foster home" angle, but signing up to play on the high school sports teams sounds like a risky move of one is looking to "fly under the radar"

And, perhaps I overlooked something, but it seems like he used his real name and month/day of his birthday, and just used a forged version that changed only the year of birth. Which means if he had to go in for a sports physical (and has ever seen a doctor before), seems like they would've spotted something "off" in the medical records.

Why would anyone want to pretend to be a high school student is beyond me?
