Many are not aware of it, but Pope Leo XIV as a cardinal was at odds with Pope Francis. There were tensions, which obviously stemmed from a sharp difference in attitude toward the Church and world. Cardinal Prevost was anti-communist, anti-LGBT, and against the idea of being absorbed with the world, while Francis constantly surrounded himself with communists and homosexuals and was one with the world. Leo XIV says that our "common home" is heaven while Francis said our "common home" is earth.

That Pope Leo has a mind to expose the evils of Communism is evident by his own words.

“Communism has penetrated even Christian circles disguised as solidarity. It is our pastoral duty to expose it.” (Pope Leo XIV)

The new pope opposes woke gender ideology, saying that “It seeks to create genders that don’t exist.” He criticizes the media and cultural trends for fostering “sympathy for beliefs and practices that are at odds with the Gospel,” especially the “homosexual lifestyle” and “same-sex partners with adopted children.” Accordingly, he fully adheres to the traditional Church teaching of marriage being between one man and one woman.

It appears a lot of people feel the same. But remember that we are in a honeymoon period. But I am also very hopeful. :)
This Pope is already better than Francis. Sorry if that is offensive, but I like this Augustinian guy a lot better.

Well, the pope is the vicar of Christ. I that that we should give submission of our intellect and wills to what he teaches, regardless of whether or not we like him.

I'm not Catholic, and getting into a debate was not my intention.

My bad. I forgot that not all folks posting in OBOB are Catholic.

But yeah, I'm not exactly sure why a Catholic would be concerned about whether a non-Catholic thinks that this pope or that pope is better. . .

What are the distinguishing aspects of Messianic Judaism?

What are the distinguishing aspects of Messianic Judaism?

The biggest difference is the role of the Israelites in the Bible. Some Messianics believe all believers should become Jews. That's not my position. There is also usually an emphasis on the OT and the Torah as both are very valuable even today, and they follow certain laws and customs of Judaism. I am barely a Messianic because I do not believe the Torah is binding on Gentiles. It's not a direct link, but I basically became Messianic because of Dr. Michael Brown, who describes himself as a Jewish believer in Jesus. He exposed the lies against the Jews and the fallout of October 7, 2023. While a lot of the general public and even Christians started to become hostile towards the Jews because of the propaganda against them (that isn't true), because I was made aware of the lies and how the lies work to some extent, it only increased my sympathies for the Jewish people. The Jews have historically been treated very, very badly, even by Christians, all throughout history. Why? Because Satan hates God's people.

Thank you. I've been meaning to learn more about Judaism. Even with a cursory understanding some of the our roots in Judaism seem very apparent, like with the priests, circumcision --> baptism; Passover --> Mass; 12 tribes --> 12 Apostles. . .

Yeah we're getting ahead of ourselves. However, it's not my intention to be negative. I want this Pope to work out. I know this sounds bad but he's kind of boring me, actually. lol. Maybe a boring Pope is a good Pope.

Maybe. He’s still too new for me to decide if he’s boring or not.

I think it is a double-edged sword. Generally I am concerned about the pope being turned into a celebrity figure of sorts. I think there is something good about the pope staying out of the mass media, especially since the mass media has an interest in creating division and controversy. On the other hand, it can be a very useful medium to share the gospel. I am hoping that perhaps Pope Leo will be skilled at striking the right balance between the two; having spent the early part of his life exposed to US media. . .

Basically all I can say is a fervent "Thanks be to God!", and pray that Leo guides the Church the way Christ wants him to. So far, he hasn't given me any reason to doubt that he won't. :) I feel relieved, and comforted.

I do find it odd that there would simultaneously be so many stories claiming he plans to have continuity with Francis' papacy and yet there's all kinds of photos and accounts of him celebrating the traditional Mass both in the US and at the Vatican and there's comments of his on the record saying very traditional and based things that Francis would never say or very nearly said the opposite of.

My gut instinct is the people publishing these claims that he'll continue Francis' agenda are more trying to manifest something than simply report a fact.

What specifically is the "agenda" to which you refer?

Pope Leo's words below suggest to me that he intends to carry on Pope Francis's work; but of course we will all have to wait and see.

Beginning with Saint Peter and up to myself, his unworthy Successor, the Pope has been a humble servant of God and of his brothers and sisters, and nothing more than this. It has been clearly seen in the example of so many of my Predecessors, and most recently by Pope Francis himself, with his example of complete dedication to service and to sober simplicity of life, his abandonment to God throughout his ministry and his serene trust at the moment of his return to the Father’s house. Let us take up this precious legacy and continue on the journey, inspired by the same hope that is born of faith.
. . .
In this regard, I would like us to renew together today our complete commitment to the path that the universal Church has now followed for decades in the wake of the Second Vatican Council. Pope Francis masterfully and concretely set it forth in the Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii Gaudium, from which I would like to highlight several fundamental points: the return to the primacy of Christ in proclamation (cf. No. 11); the missionary conversion of the entire Christian community (cf. No. 9); growth in collegiality and synodality (cf. No. 33); attention to the sensus fidei (cf. Nos. 119-120), especially in its most authentic and inclusive forms, such as popular piety (cf. No. 123); loving care for the least and the rejected (cf. No. 53); courageous and trusting dialogue with the contemporary world in its various components and realities (cf. No. 84; Second Vatican Council, Pastoral Constitution Gaudium et Spes, 1-2).
