I’m not done w/ it yet but last then last night I started a video on Charismatics (people who think the Holy Spirit’s miracles are a regular occurrence like tongues) & different groups that have believed that thru-out church history

I've probably said it before, but Hollywood's trope of portraying dads negatively ruins so many things for me. It's all over Thunderbolts. People will argue that Red Guardian makes up for it because he's a good dad but almost every scene Yelena acts like he's stupid and she's too cool for him.

I wasn't sure what to expect at all. The MCU's been up & down lately but the Internet's been saying it's actually pretty good.

I liked it! A lot of criticisms of recent MCU movies, I just didn't see in this. It got me excited for Marvel again. One of the things I liked was the humor was toned way down for example. It's refreshing seeing a comci book movie that takes itself serious again. I thought the action scenes were interesting. I don't think they made buffoons or cowards of the male characters & the male characters didn't seem sidelined. There was genuine heart in it. I liked the messages on feeling 2nd rate. I liked how it explores mental health (the effects of sin is what the Bible would call it).

I didn't really notice the daddy issues, but yeah, you're right now that I think of it, they all did. It's not just a trope, it's messaging...........

The central story is Bob's trauma with his father. With Valentina it's ambiguous. Either her dad got the family into trouble or it wasn't his fault. John Walker is supposed to be an apathetic father who was kicked out. Also, Yelena treats Red Guardian coldly, but at least David Harbour is a good actor.

I can understand why people like the Yelena and Bob story line. If that was most of the movie, and they made the trauma about something else, I'd have been more into it. At least it has some good parts though like it's about helping someone. The action scene when they arrive at the facility and no one knows what's going on was really well done.

The sad reality is 'daddy issues' are common in life. I saw it growing up. Now that I'm older I'm seeing it from the adult perspective. It's a sad cycle. Usually it's not abuse or anything evil on the surface, so much as the father simply being absent - no male authority, & kids don't get the male authority in school either. lol, I think about these things too much.

But yeah I was pleasantly surprised w/ the movie!

I watched The Handmaid’s Tale last night. This is the last season. It’s been slow going but things are picking up now. Two episodes remain. It’s been interesting to follow as we’ve undergone changes in the country. You ask yourself could we do the same and think otherwise at first. But as things continue to splinter you realize how upsets occur and fringe ideas pick up steam and start a movement.

I’ve seen a lot of rhetoric along these lines on social media. A desire to return to former times, stripping people of rights and forcing women to stay at home. Never mind the economy or cost of living. There’s a thirst for repression and a growing past time of shaming others who live differently. The unfortunate part of it all is seeing believers do the same and bringing God into their discourse while trumpeting unloving thoughts.

It’s become a form of empowerment for men and women. I see similar ideals in comments from videos. I’m beginning to wonder if we’ve reached the point where we no longer care for one another. The gulf between men and women is growing which makes Gilead possible. You don’t behave that way with someone you love or God’s creation either.

TMZ Presents: The Menendez Brothers: The Prison Interview

I watch very few films for that reason and others. But I’ve enjoyed the John Wick franchise in spite of the violence. The characters have range and the men are the type you used to see years ago. Masculine and tough.

John Wick is one of the better recent franchises for sure. I like that there isn't too much comedy while still being fun and engaging. The men do feel more 80s or 90s cool.

Mannequin 2 is proof, to me at least, that low rated movies aren't always terrible. There are some bad parts, like every scene with the cliche dumb jocks. But the couple is really charming and I like how sincere the romance is. I think the story captured the modern fairy tale feeling surprisingly well.

I followed the case years ago. It was so bizarre and quite the twister. There was always a question whether their story was true or not. I have my doubts. Dominick Dunne covered it as well and he was the best we’ve had in that arena. You may want to look at his notes from the trial.

From what archival clips of the trial I have seen, I don't find their displays on the stand believable and tend to buy into the prosecution's argument as to their reasoning for doing it. Even if they are eventually paroled, I can take comfort in the fact that regardless of the motivation for what they did, they will have served a lot of years behind bars as punishment.

We watched the Lilo & Sitch remake. Cartoon is better.

I wonder where that cliche comes from. Jocks are really smart
