The reduction in tariffs for China It does mean the U.S. will take in less money in tariffs.
You mean that US companies won't be paying so much to the US government. So Joe Public will still be paying more for his daughter's doll. Just not as much as he thought.

Maybe that was the plan all along. Frighten people with the possibility of empty shelves and when it turns out they're only going to be half empty they won't mind paying extra for what they want.

Joe gets a tax cut.
And how will they pay for that?: https://apnews.com/article/congress-tax-cuts-republicans-medicaid-67013369b771d02c0128ee6421f302eb

'House Republicans proposed sweeping tax breaks Monday in President Donald Trump’s big priority bill, tallying at least $4.9 trillion in costs so far, partly paid for with cuts to Medicaid, food stamps and green energy programs used by millions of Americans.'

'The cost assessments are only preliminary, and expected to soar'.

Except...

'Meanwhile, dozens of House Republicans have told Johnson and GOP leaders they will not support cuts to Medicaid, which provides some 70 million Americans with health care, nor to green energy tax breaks that businesses back home have been relying on to invest in new wind, solar and renewable projects'.

It won't pass.

So you're complaint is that it will lower Trump's taxes on us? Or am I missing something?

Do you know what happened to get progress on a deal? People from both sides who know what they are doing, sitting in a room for as long as it takes, bargaining, doing deals, making and asking for concessions, balancing one aspect of trade with another. Doing their best to make sure that both parties leave with something positive.

Do you know how not to do it? Or at least, not do to make what you eventually need to do as difficult as possible? Exactly what Trump did. Who then had to walk back his tariffs so that China would do the same so those people could sit in that room and act like grownups. This was a job for the adults. Instead? Well, look what you got. 'I’ve made 200 deals'.

It's what a schoolkid would say if he's being questioned on something you both know he hasn't done. You know he lied. And I know that you know that he lied.
Trump and his team negotiated a good deal. Unfortunately, you appear to refuse to admit it or accept it.

From the Chinese point of view, Trump blinked and backed down. China did not promise anything specific, not even any specific talk, just some willingness to "talk more" in the future.
I don't except the Chinese point of view about this to be different than what the liberals point of view. I shall believe Bessent instead of propaganda that the Chinese government is telling their own people.

No matter what he says, the US backed down. The crazy tariffs came from the US side, lasted for just few weeks and about a week ago Trump has begun to panic - posting things that China must open to trade "NOW!!", saying that he will be very nice to China and even saying he will cut tariffs significantly before any talk with China.

This is literally backing down. Even now, he has nothing. Just willingness of China to come to the table. They are selling you hot air.

You have a lot of Blind Faith in a deal no one has actually seen.

... and I can't find my way home.

There is no 'deal'. Putting a pause on the high tariffs for 90 days is not a deal. It is, at best, the opening of negotiations.

But the idea is to get the best deal overall, and with China that means stopping the flow of fentanyl ingredients to North America, stopping China from stealing U.S. intellectual property, and stopping them from cheating in so many ways.

Right.

China made such promises with past administrations going back to Obama (and Trump 1) ....there's no reason to believe they will comply now.

The fact is, the Chinese government holds all the cards. Their leaders can inflict pain on their consumers for the nation's greater good. Trup does not have that option. The "only two dolls for Christmas" remark didn't fly with Americans. It almost sounded like something a communist leader would say.......

Treasury Secretary Bessent appears to disagree with that opinion. There's more involved here than tariffs.

Chinese companies laid off around 5 million Chinese workers. China needs to make a deal with the USA.

Truth is no one knows anything about the "deal". Its a pause. There is much for China and the US to discuss. There might be some things in place for now, but neither Trump or China have completed this deal. Both sides want to claim a win. Whatever.

Neither side won and neither side lost right now. Unless of course one hates Trump, then everything he does is a loss.

One side clearly started the trade war with China, and as of today, has nothing to show for it except a 30% tariff on Chinese imports.

The USA did NOT fold in this upcoming trade deal agreement with China. In my opinion, anyone who thinks otherwise is not paying close attention to all of the relative information and facts.
From what I have read, Trump tariffs are still at 30% and China dropped them back to the original 10%. Remind me what the U.S. tariffs were on China before the trade war?
